Sun Valley Skatepark

“They did a great design, they changed only one thing from what we wanted,” O’Gara said, adding: “We’re really excited and ecstatic that this is happening.”

And yet no mention of who designed, or is involved with the construction of the soon to be largest (25,000 square feet) skatepark in LA. You’d think someone with a $2 million dollar construction and design budget would want to brag a little. It’s the Sun Valley neighborhood. (Isn’t all of California sun valley?) Any guesses?

  1. Huge amounts of flat slabs. Looks like a grandiose street plaza. Feeling bored and hot just looking at it.

Thanks to Spohn Ranch Oregon’s skateparks are being systematically dumbed down to standards that haven’t been seen since the early 90’s. Spohn Ranch is building skateparks that are not up to the benchmark that Oregon has set with parks like Sisters, Lincoln City, Coosbay, Westlinn, Aumsville just to name a few. This park shown above is being built in Bend. Its pretty sad to see such a boring waste of space being built for such an extreme amount of money. Especially when the community of Sisters just built of the best new park in Oregon for a fraction of the price. Spohn needs to stay out of the northwest and take their overpriced, low quality designs and construction back to southern California.

I agree about the Spohn Ranch comment. They built the hansen dam skatepark which isn’t far from the new Sun Valley Skatepark. About 30% isn’t skated at Hansen, even though its skateable–just not skated due to poor design (and thats a problem due to how small the park is). The flow/bowl section is nice at Hansen I must say.

I wish builders like Team Pain and CA Skateparks would build around my area, but spohn ranch built the 2 parks that are within 5 miles from my house.

  3. well…skaters work for them and they gotta earn a living too. Just like the guys that skate for Nike. Oh wait a minute…forget it. Skateboarding/Surfing/whatever boarding! SOLD!

  4. There’s trees in that there board park.

  5. $2 million for a park that small….you people are fucked.

  6. 2 million? it should be indoor with a wavepool around it. there should be at least one wood vert ramp too…or steel.

Sure, we’re all such a bunch of down-for-the-scene core-guys that we’d never screw a rich governmental agency out of a cool two mil…

I agree it’s an absurd price, but be honest.

This is why you’re an immature bozo, Bozo. No one is POCKETING a cool 2, or 1, million… just a bunch of people getting paid for the actual doing of superfluous work. The skate-related public is the only one getting screwed… cuz the “rich” governmental agency sure don’t skate, and it isn’t even its money. Something tells me you’ve never even helped build so much as a mini in your life… and that you think sucking is the shit.

Junior, I’ve built more things than you’ve had hot breakfasts.

And I’ll never quit reminding you so-called core guys that you’re nothing more than jocks of a different stripe. Think for yourself once in a while.
