Plastic but not fantastic

Anybody know what the deal is with these plastic boards? I see them on eBay every once and a while. At first I thought it was some off the shelf Santa Cruz stickers stuck on some new Chinese crap in order to pass it off as “old school.” I’ve seen construction like this before, and I want to say it’s a late 90’s phenomenon at the earliest. However, that sure does look like an old school truck mounting pattern. I give up. Are these bona fide NHS gear from a past era? Don’t get offended. All the major skateboard companies have done sketchy things in the past. Or in fact, are these the work of a con artist with a stack of stickers? Sa ka roulé has amassed a stack of photos of these injection molded mysteries.

Just picked up a complete of this skateboard at a garage sale. It’s definitely vintage. The deck and decals are the same as pictured except it’s white.

  • masterochicken

A lot of the newer plastic boards are using the oldschool mounting pattern, so you can’t really go by that.

  • wall eyed glue huffer

u might win a railslide contest on those as long as the flex is low

    • A

I’d be afraid the board would shatter.

i actutally remeber those things in the 80’s usually sold at a drug store, but if its hi density plastic it wouldnt shatter, like ill fated everslick, the board has zero ollie pop, but will slide forever. i put rails on ever board i own its my version of P2 construction and u keep the ollie pop slides forever board lasts forever

Pictured in Skateboards that rock, ‘that green book’ by Rhyn Noll.
Stickers shouldn’t be there but top logo says ‘Santa Cruz Foam Decks’. Also claimed to be from the 80’s which seems plausable.

good catch, but the Rhyn Noll books are so full of inaccuracies that it’s tough to believe anything that’s in any of them.

I know, I just read past the crap. And I bought it for the pictures. Stickers aside, I still believe these boards (on Sa Ka Roule) could be genuine 80’s boards, or they used the OG mold. But they are missing the top logo and factory grip.

  • I keep wondering wether these boards are NOS or brand new crap … Hey NHS, can you tell ?
    btw – “le plastic c’est fantastic” is a french song from 1991 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xstc5o2wRM
Enjoy and prick up your ears, it is … meant for a mature public.

aren’t the stickers put on wrong? SC would put the logos in opposite directions, not both facing in the same direction like that.

    • If you follow the link, the stickers are facing opposite ways on some of the decks—no consistency, which seems fishy…

    • Good call! I’m sensing a bogus repro–though theyt look like a lark nonetheless.

A cheap lark, I’d pay less than $20 bucks for…

  • I think its some dude trying to figure out where to go with Penny market after those toy cruisers. Can’t imagine these are genuine NOS

  • Those look pretty cool for a novelty item.
