Evergreen in Happy Valley

Evergreen Skateparks recently broke ground on a 4500 square foot skatepark in Happy Valley, Oregon. I can’t find a design for this anywhere, and most of the pictures that turn up in a Google Image search are old concepts attributed to Newline that appeared here on S&A back in 2009. Newline still has revised plans on their website. What happened is anyone’s guess, but Oregonians are happy to keep it local.

Fuck Spohn ranch!!! Don’t let these ass clowns build anything in your town. Their skateparks are a JOKE!!!

  • Keep pre-cast out of everywhere! I have an open invitation to anyone considering building anything but a skatepark built by craftsman who actually skate to visit to my backyard that Tavita, Billy and the rest of the Evergreen crew built. I

Fuck yeah! I’d like to see local stuff, built by local skaters, and I’d like to see more of the new weirdness that’s been popping up. Beaverton 2 is a great use of space, and the new Powell Park stuff looks like it’ll be cool, too.

For a while there, it seemed that we were destined to enjoy a lot of the same stuff we can find at Burnside–a punk wall, a pool, an elbow, etc, not pre-fab, but pre-designed… Not a terrible thing, but a tad predictable.

Now, that’s a thing of the past. Evergreen is building some amazing stuff these days, and I’m hyped to be living right here where I can enjoy it.

Keep it going! Keep skateboarding for skateboarders by skateboarders.

  • GO TAVITA…and that goes for WA State too

  • Preach!

Spohn Ranch is a pre-fab concrete company. they also do pre-fab steel modular. The same stuff our skatepark advocates have posted videos against. It is curious that one would back them up and advocate against the skater design/build companies. Spohn Ranch consults for cities which means that not only could you get a souless peice of crap done by them, but you could also see skater builders forced to adhere to their ways of fast food design and wack techniques. It has already begun. I wish to keep Oregon parks made by skaters for skaters, whether I work on them or not. I want them done by craftsmen, not cookie cutters. People get passionate and pissed. Let’s get some shit stirred and make it smell by turning up the heat!

keep that pre-cast out of Oregon.

    uh oh.

  • Hey Vince from Spohn Ranch, please give me a call.

  • That’s incorrect. We put together construction drawings and specifications for a cast-in-place concrete park.

Contractors also had the option to bid the park using pre-cast construction, but nobody bid it that way.

  • God bless you Evergreen.

    • We had new construction documents made for our design. We knew going in that we were going to have to change the design for it to work optimally as a poured in place park rather than a modular one.

  • This project went out to bid as a pre-cast concrete design created by some local architects with help from Spohn Ranch. When we won the bid with a poured in place skatepark option and we re-designed the park but kept the same overall footprint. It will be a fun little park.

Looks like a fun lil’ spot!

  • As our post states, Spohn Ranch was contracted for community workshops, conceptual design and construction drawings.

“another Spohn Ranch skatepark has just broken ground … …Stay tuned for construction updates!” You could see how that’s a little confusing.

Conahan speaks truth: that full size park is still in the works, but there’s no money. This one is separate.

They were pretty close to going precast, but people raised hell. The whole thing is a little fly by night.

Looks to me like this is related:

  • Stoked to see Billy getting more work. I want him for Lawrence Kansas’ phase two as soon as there’s $$$.

  • Apparently, this is a different Happy Valley site entirely. No news on the other skatepark effort.
