Clown Ramp rebirth

There’s a guy trying to restore the Clown Ramp, I’ve got an email or a Facebook message somewhere that I’ve misplaced. I know he’s looking for people who might know where pieces of it are, mainly the bits that used to be part of Skate Ball. The pic above is from Embassy Skateboards recap of their 2nd Annual Jeff Phillips tribute.

Wow…. I’m many years to late to help you. I was just curious of the clown ramp. Where it originally came from because when I was about 12 a section of it was purchased by our little town in attempt to build us a skate park. The skate park never got built and the ramp sat by a shed on the edge of town. I went up to it one day to check it out. I remember the colors. Kind of a aqua color with yellow. But I also remember some kind of lights built into the ramp. I don’t suppose it’s around anymore. But if you wanna track it down I’d ask at the city office in Dell Rapids, SD and ask if anyone knows what they did with it. I always was curious about the story of the clown ramp. Where it originally came from and how our little town got their hands on it.

The lights are part of the Skate Ball, check the link in this post for more info. SkateBall was sold as a prefab skatepark/ skating game. There were few sold and installed in the states, possibly one in the UK too.

  • Restoration update:

All panels have had ALL under support joist removed and cleaned up.
Steel frames have been made for flat panel support.
Currently, I have been grinding, scraping and chiseling skate side to remove all bondo, resin and gel coat that had been applied throughout the years. (its actually a trip seeing the strata layers come off and uncovering the history of ramp.

    Summer 2017:

This is when the real restoration will actually start. Ive been living in Duplexes the past few years and haven’t had the space to do a proper restoration. I now own a house with a giant backyard and I’m setting it up to get this done.

Once the reverse molds are complete and and the ramps starts taking shape, I’ll will be setting up a Kick-starter campaign with a target end date.

The ramp will be re-introduced to the general pubic at Mike Crum’s 4Down Project in Dallas, Tx when this is all complete. Any one interested in lending a helping hand, feel free to contact me directly at gscot57@gmail.com

  • Adam, do you happen to have any panels left (Lower Skate-ball panels)?
I actually have 21 panels that I’VE gathered from multiple spots in Edgewood and Wills point.

I did hear rumors for someone having a few panels in FTW, any info on those would be great.

-i will try to dig up some pictures, i know i have a few. They were in really rough shape, especially the pepsi ramp.

I don’t know if you are still looking but I owned about 30 pieces plus the big pepsi portable halfpipe back in 2000-2005 ish. I found them in Edgewood, Tx just pilled up on someone’s property and we bought them for $700. We put a bunch up in our backyard. After I moved out of my parents house, they donated them to a paintball place nearby that wanted to do something with the ramps.

  • Chris Peters

Looking for pics of the old pepsi ramp that was at bachman lake next to the clown ramp back in the 80s. any references would be appreciated

    • Did you ever find pics of the Pepsi ramp?
      Thank you,
      Carl

  • Ben form the Rec shop here in Dallas, Tx helped find the ramp, I went out and recovered it. I’ve have started the restoration process. If anyone out there is interested in helping, let me know gscot57@gmail.com.

  • walled eyed glue huffer

‘texas style back in the day’ has a clown ramp segment, craig johnson ripped it, i’m surprised that much is left of an out door ramp from over 25 years ago

  • that piece of the ramp resides @ the overground project in dallas. you can contact them through facebook, or @ overgroundskateboarding.com. i believe ben sharon (the owner of the rec shop) is the dude trying to excavate & restore it.
