Better mousetrap department
Just a note to let everyone know that I will no longer feature imaginary magical skateboards that exist only in the minds and hard drives of aspiring industrial designers. There are just too many. Don’t even send them to me unless they actually exist, or are so amazing that they need to be seen (or ridiculed).
– Thanks to Boy for the tip.
Ride skateboards, don’t redesign them. They’re perfect all ready.
Goddamnit. I am an industrial design student, skateboarder and cyclist, and I am sick and tired of seeing concepts for skateboards and bikes that are purely developed for aesthetics. “Center-less” or “hub-less” wheels are so overused in too many of my peers’ designs.
Seems silly, but so did the overhead-cam, air-brakes, direct-injection, the safety razor, and the shoelace.
Form follows function, but the exception proves the rule: Sooner or later, somebody will come up with a revolution by fixing what isn’t broken. Without the relentless tinkerers, we could all be driving wood-0framed cars with flatheads, babbit bearings, single-circuit drum-brakes and no safety glass…
However, until the inevitable redesign, hubless wheels look lame!
Where’s my hoverboard?

haters and purists should ride steel or clay wheels
I’m too lazy to look this up myself, but what were bushings made out of during the pre urethane wheel era?

Rubber or nothing at all.
