Call me old and lame but I just don’t understand the need for a vert ramp when there are literally dozens of pools/bowls in the area that all have vert. Didn’t vert ramps only start because people wanted to skate pools where there were none and bowled corners were too tough to make?
Because riding a vert ramp and riding a pool are two different things. We built Vert ramps not because we didn’t have pools (we had a few), but because we wanted to skate a half-pipe.
VERT RAMPS ALLOW YOU TO HIT MORE CONSECUTIVE WALLS IN LESS TIME WHILE BAILING ON A MORE FORGIVING SURFACE. IF YOU CANT FIGURE OUT THE BENEFITS ITS BECAUSE YOU NEVER BELIEVED IN DOING AN AIR ABOVE YOUR OWN HEAD.
Well thank you for such a polite response. I guess I’m just jealous that other states have so much concrete and so many pools and yet they want a big wooden ramp to go back and forth on.
Here in MN we have to build our own bowls indoors and pay rent every month – the handful of 4 foot and under true ride parks in the city just don’t cut it. I guess I’d just be so stoked to have a concrete bowl less than 3.5 hours away (let alone several) that I wouldn’t even think about riding back and forth on wooden ramp.
You lost your heritage when you stopped surfing. You lost your heritage when you stopped skating vert ramps. Don’t let the past go. http://www.don‘tloseyourheritage.GVK
I had this same discussion under the bridge with Dirt awhile back. He told me how bad we need a vert ramp, and I pointed to Pier. He says its got too much flat, and I didn’t really know what to say about that.
Pier has too much Flat! Dink, probably has too much FAT. As for Q-man, he wandered into the ol’ Klamath Falls Library Thursday. He had a skateboard and was catching up on (what do they call those things with all the shoe advertisements?) Oh, skateboard mags. I asked him if he wanted to head up to the park, I said Beef Cake and I are heading up. He passed, and asked if they still have the helmet B.S. I said “no, it’s a free for all” He still passed.
ON another note, they have taken down most of the fence around the K-falls skate park. That’s one of the biggest, dumbest, bullshit wastes of money, putting up a stupid Phucking fence. I HATE stupid fences, like the big bohemoth phucker around Sacremento’s Granite skate park. As for sacramento and the rest of california GO POUND SAND!
I’ve seen this story before.

and maybe I should have said indoor vert ramp
Ahh. I can totally understand that!
And I wasn’t saying vert was lame or anything, like I said below I’m just jealous of all that great concrete you guys have out that way.
I hear you. This is at the park where the kid wants a vert ramp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WuFi-2Ierk I don’t get it.
There are a number of bowls with vert in my area; but no straight up vert ramps. I’d like a few weeks on one just to learn tricks and get dialed in.

Too much stuff to skate… Such a problem!
Where’s my 90s mini ramp, with a spine, and an extension?
the padded up old guys just look for the two biggest oposing walls and ride them like a half pipe all day never touching a round wall
no need for spongy plywood
Evidently you don’t skate much in the Portland Metro area.
adapt or die!
oh my!

Also, what better way to get speed for a big air “over my head” then pumping out of a corner…?

Wow, you’re in Mexico one day and you’re already on the interwebs. Close that laptop, go directly to the surf and work on those laybacks.
Save the laybacks for the concrete. Laybacks in the surf have always been an edgeless way of nursing a turn.
We are spoiled rotten in Oregon. Oregon has the raddest skate scene in the world.
Definitely!

Pier is only 11.5 feet deep. with 12 foot of flat.
i want to ride a vert ramp, a vert bowl, a hill, a curb, a backyard pool, a mini ramp, a skate plaza.
I want to join the skate army and ride the rails with the Q-Man!
