Unclear on the meaning

Ironic that the self proclaimed “Longboard Mega Ramp” is dwarfed by the “regular-don’t-call-it-short” board mega ramp, even though the wheelbases on the regular mega ramp are significantly longer than boards they would, uhm, regularly ride. So it’s big to be sure, but not a mega ramp by any stretch. Actually, I remember there’s a mini mega ramp in eastern Oregon or Washington that is about the same size as this one, ridden with ordinary skateboards. I guess it’s all about the marketing. My favorite part of the video is where the guy talks about wanting to take early grabs to the next level. It does look like fun however, regardless of what size board you ride. Brought to you by Original Skateboards.

Even the longboard community is making fun of this one. Original is known for being kind of lame anyway. It’s interesting to note that the guy who designed this used to skate popsicle decks. Some have gone as far as to say that this is his way way of returning to that without losing his sponsor.

  2. 3:07…..corded drill as screwgun, and bare feet.
Where is Charles Darwin when you need him?

  3. given that, technically, even a mega ramp is a “mini” if it doesn’t go to vert any where (in the sense that a 20′ two waller is a “mini” if it aint even a halfpipe, and a seven footer that has vert is, technically, a vert ramp, rather than a halfpipe or mini ramp)… that damn thing’s about as “mini” as it gets

Agreed, the name megaramp is ill-fated or a bit deceiving. It’s a mega jump ramp.Regular “don’t-call-it-short”-boarders are used to making airs in a ramp.It rides different without a tail;you can’t adjust direction and considering you can’t ollie your longboard, these guys get a lot of airtime. Also, when dropping the Mega Ramp (that’s the same one used in Nitro Circus, right?),in the back of your mind you know you can knee-slide it out into a half pipe. These guys land on the street. So yeah;I too think Original is a bit lame but I have to pick one up for longboarding here (as I ‘regularly’ will).

Seems like the words “mega ramp” should never have been included. Launch ramp?

….I have to wait three-and-a-halve minutes until the first glimpse of T&A,that’s gay!

They shared the latest,Spring 2011,issue of CW with an alternative cover.

  7. 4′ = Mega? If so, I’ve been riding mega ramps for years!

  8. Aren’t at least some of these guys old enough to know that launch ramps were done 25 years ago? I wonder if any of them would step up to the real thing, given the opportunity? Surely their larger wheelbased boards would work well on the larger ramp. Anyone know how to get in touch with Bob Burnquist? I agree some of the slams they took were harsh and straight to concrete, but compared to the infamous Jake Brown slam? That 20 foot quarter pipe doesn’t look reassuring to me, it looks lethal!

that ramp looked so fun…more long board launch ramps no ollying and early grabs are slightly suspect though but keep it up

  10. Hmm… Looks like a flybox with a gap to me. Oh, that’s because it IS.

  11. Wow, the Original guys are usually really good at marketing. But holy crap, using the term “Mega Ramp” was a huge blunder. If they hadn’t been so pretentious with the name, people would have a different attitude towards this. Some of those jumps are pretty rad, no matter what board they’re riding. And who wouldn’t be stoked to have a launch ramp like that?

    1. Yeah, they have some pretty slick marketing, but they kooked it this time. Take away the pretension and the name (what’s in a name?) and it still looks like… FUN!

good thing they didn’t let any kicktailed boards into the warehouse to show them up

    1. who cares anyway on June 17, 2011 - Reply

kick tails will at least ease the pain of every single air being an early grab…leave that in 1982 where it belongs

  13. I’m deep into the longboard thing and will be first to admit that this ramp–which looks fun as hell to skate– isn’t mega at all. It’s more of an XL jump box.

That said, everyone loves racing and getting air; so I can’t really hate on go-fast dudes wanting to go big.

    1. My thoughts too. It ain’t no mega-ramp but I’d have fun skating it.

  14. The first version of the launch ramp was pretty lame. As a carpenter I have an inherent dislike for architects. Just because you can draw, does not mean you can design. But the second version does look fun.

I wanted to see someone butt board down that hill in their leather suit and hit that jump ramp. That would be extreme.

I give the last rider, three whirly birds. It looks fun, it’s a healthy gap, I’d like to do the water launch.
