Skate and Annoy: Daily

Tomorrowland of yesteryear

Just got back from SPRING BREAK whoo-hoo! Show me your… kids, 5 and younger. First trip to Disneyworld. It was fun, and the kids loved it, but somewhere around 13 hours into it (drive time not included) my 3 year old turned away from the Main Street Electrical Parade and whined “why are we still here?” Disneyland made a liar of me. Two big things I got my kids stoked to see were no shows. The part of the Haunted Mansion at the end where the ghosts end up in the car sitting next to you.. broken or discontinued. In stead there was some really lame one dimensional cartoons projected on the wall as you went past. The second disappointment? Midway through the day I realized I couldn’t find 20,000 leagues under the sea. I told my kids we were going on a submarine and might get attacked by a giant squid. I mentioned it to an old timer who struck up a conversation with me, and his wife laughed at me. She said it had been gone a really, really long time. What? Oh yeah, skateboarding. One thing that hadn’t changed, Tomorrowland Speedway. Even as a kid I didn’t quite get the “Tomorrowland” aspect of this ride. It seemed so low tech. One thing I didn’t notice as a kid was how skateable the track was. That’s a really nice bank to wall there, too bad about the skate stoppers on the flat. I gotta believe at one point in time some cast member (they don’t call them employees) snuck a skateboard into his locker and took a few runs after they shut down the park. Alternate view after the jump.

I remember the Haunted Mansion ride where the man in the ghost suit sits next to you and it’s just you and him in the dark.

The last time I was there I went on 20,000 leagues like 4 times. I loved that ride. It was about 20 years ago though. I also loved the Earthquake ride. Or was that at Universal? And King Kong was good.

  • Compared to Six Flags, Great America, and Seaworld, Disneyworld is seriously outdated

  • Disney sucks, sorry to hear about your disappointment at the crappiest place on earth. 20 to park, over 100 for admission, and 12 dollar sodas. Not that epic except in the amount of cash they are going to ream everyone for.
