Lents Park skate spot comment opportunity

Lents Park is bounded by SE Steele and SE Holgate, SE 88th and SE 92nd. The skatepark master plan has it at 5000 sq. ft. Take the time to check this out and comment. There is nothing designed yet skate-wise but there is some opposition to a skatespot in this park so there should be equal or more positive comments. View the three concepts proposed for the Lents Park Master Plan and submit your comments by Wednesday, September 15, 5:00 PM. Comment Opportunity

Thanks Brian for the heads up.

  1. Is this part of the 19 parks master plan?

    1. Yeah, it’s one of the 19.

12 blocks from my house. i am happy.

  3. Until we figure out how to fund it, it doesn’t mean anything.

We have become complacent after the current 5 parks were built, and the driving forces have largely moved on. Having conversations about “We should build in my neighborhood” and “Should there be a euro-gap in that bank” are fun, and are valuable towards coming to a consensus – but we have got to figure out where the money is before anything concrete can take place (pun intended).

I’m currently part of the problem, not part of the solution.

If you’ve got ideas: lets hear ’em – or get a hold of Conahan and/or myself.

Chad, I don’t think you literally mean “Until we figure out how to fund it, it doesn

  4. It means something when there are a certain few in the neighborhood who are adamantly against it. Show your support. We need to outweigh the naysayers. Yes, the funding is not there. No this is not about the actual design, but it is about the space that is allotted. Let’s let them know we are interested.

  5. Why can’t we get one in the Milwaukie area? This one is going to be relatively close to Ed Benedict, yet there’s none in the Milwaukie/Gladstone area.

Even a West Moreland park would be a step in the right direction.

    1. OR City?

      Yes!!!

  7. hells yes im in the 72nd and woodstock area…..perfect location, lets have a baked sale.

  8. Ya I am just saying there is a covered area in west moreland park that only crackheads use, and would make a great tranny spot

  9. VERT-RAMP METAL SKATELITE NOW… CHECK OUT TRUE RIDE.

Sorry to be a buzzkill but it’s nearly inconceivable public funds would be used to provide a vert ramp. That dream will be realized much more quickly on the private DIY tip.

  10. who owns the covered area in West Moreland? Find out who owns it and contact them.. or let me know the location and I’ll do all the research for you!

    1. I think Portland parks owns it. It’s near the casting pond.
      Just follow the duck poop.

  11. I have no idea who does actually, I have been going there a long time for rainy flat ground sessions. go to the park and it’s right next to some playground equipment adjacent to some basketball courts in the center of the park.

  12. actually since the idea of making neighborhood skate spots is flourishing, there is an abandoned on ramp off McCloughlin near the traintracks that could be turned into another Brooklyn like skate spot.

    search and destroy!

  13. Can someone link a map to me, I’ll call the Portland Parks dept. I’ve been doing all this kind of stuff already… i’ll just bundle it in! The biggest problem in this town isn’t approval right? The land is there… Just get a group of people to DIY something as a spot.. and as time goes on, learn how to do it better and keep adding or fixing or whatnot… (this is in addition to waiting for the City to complete “SkateParks”

  14. nevermind, i found it on a map. I’ll make some phone calls and follow up on this thread.

    1. Geez, the one man red tape wrecking crew. Are you repenting for some horrible skate-sin?

      1. Other than Bacon, of course….

DIY in Parks’ owned land is a non-starter for reasons I won’t belabor here.

      1. agreed… I’ve learned a lot from yesterday…

But i think working to clean up shit-holes in this city with cleaned up skate-spots is a reasonable goal

        1. We need to harness the DIY movement’s momentum and figure out how to use it as a PR tool towards the remaining 19. It wouldn’t be too hard to portray the need for more terrain, as well as the fact that we ain’t afraid to work for our dinner.

The current spot that Colin is working on, the superfund site that was in St Johns, the previously mentioned 32nd / Broadway spot, etc etc etc. There’s got to be a way to use those projects to fundraise.

    Should there be a euro-gap

    1. I think it needs a Euro-Old Navy

      1. (golf clap)

        1. Thank you. Finally, someone recognizes my genius.

  16. So frustrating that because it’s parks land you cant do anything to it, and yet that spot is collecting dust and graffiti as we speak. I gotta say though as a non native I have learned a lot about where and when you can through up a DIY spot, and the consequences that can arise (cough asshole that works next to the Brooklyn spot, or the ledges hidden on Broadway and 32 now destroyed). I hope to take this knowledge back to Idaho and get the ball rollin

  17. This spot in Milwaukie is tainted with creosote. There’s a huge fenced off area that’s covered in gravel. There’s even signs telling people to stay out of the field next to the graveled area.

I have been wanting to organize a group to push for development here for a while now.

Not only will it be a new skatepark, but it will also be an environmental clean up. Which may mean that we’d be eligible for additional grants.

I have the time, resources, and will to develop proposals… I just don’t have an army to stand behind me and provide a show of force with some numbers.

  18. All right I will repeat myself Some of the people who live in this city and pay titaxes and all the self righteous bullshit that could be said Want a vert ramp. I feel like the city works for people or they should. This is not an attack on T Miller. Just a wad-dup to the city. YO

  19. Lets go private. We can set up a collection fund on Skate and Annoy.

  20. Hi,

could I ask you to add your skatepark to our map of spots? It’s located here: http://skateplan.com.
