Skate and Annoy: Daily

WIll it jive jibe with your karma?

I really like Built to Shred, but I’m surprised by this “Will it shred?” video. I’m not sure how “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” jives with destroying a brand new $500 consumer electronic device for three minutes of video promotion. Still, it’s amusing, and you’re reading about it, so it was a good business decision even if it directly contradicts the central tenet of the show. Read the fine print on the professional rider disclaimer before you set up your own iPad as a skateboard.

  • Uh, Randy, it’s not so much that it “looks like crap” in my “broswer” as that that-there word looks dyslexic (at least in the upper right hand corner of the screen). Good point about the heavy metals, though. As an angler who likes to cook his catch, I hate our collective carelessness about spewing mercury into the environment like it was oil or something.

  • that was lame

  • A

Well I learned a new old word today. At least I got “tenet” right.

Human labor isn’t what the reduce, reuse, recycle effort is about. Electronic circuitry has a lot of heavy metals and caustic chemicals involved in thte manufacturing process… so destroying a brand new mini computer for publicity purposes certainly seems at odds with reduce, reuse, recycle.

That being said, I’m still a big fan of the show.

Email me a screen capture of your browser woes, don’t forget to say what browser (version) and what OS you are using, (Mac or PC)

  • Also, while I’m nitpicking, I should alert you that my broswer seems dyslexic in this new format.

  • What Says said. And Randy, destroying a “$500 consumer electronic device” absolutely “jives” with its supposed worth, although it may not, to some minds, “JIBE” with a theme of avoiding waste. And it’s not as if much human labor was wasted on that device, so its real cost would be more in time wasted on it by a consumer (which has been neatly eliminated), and, ultimately, as waste-of-space in a landfill (but maybe this one, like, sacrificed itself so that others might not live). “There’s more to life than not skating” may have been its dying croak.

  • iPad ramp extension? Yeah there’s an app for that. Best use of an iPad I’ve seen yet!

  • Prime example of the blatant misuse of funds . Money could be well spent on other forms of Shred 🙂
