Skate and Annoy: Daily

No scooters aloud? What about quietly?

Checked out the new Kelso, Washington skatepark yesterday, where the locals were friendly and the concrete was…

…really smooth in the shallow and street area with vast expanses of bumpy patches and washed out transitions in the deep end. Not the locals seemed to mind at all, I asked one kid who built it and he said he didn’t know, he was “just there to tear shit up.” According to one BMXer on deck, the park was designed by Rodd Marks and built by a bunch of construction workers in the city. 80% of the concrete is smooth as silk, but everything over shoulder height looks like it was finished by an entirely different crew.

You make your own fun right? Take the exit with the Target store, go north on the first street on the east side of the highway.

Here’s the view as you approach the park.

And this is the punchline. “No scooters aloud. 3pm Bitchs.” Does that mean no scooters allowed after 3pm? Is it a cautionary message directed at a scooter gang called the “3pm Bitches.”

Whew. That’s a big drop. That clamshell in the back doesn’t really go over vert. It’s more of an elevator extension.

I like the heavy metal works, but I still hate heavy metal.

Abandon all hope, ye who enter the deep end. It does have pool coping though.

  • Jake, Dear. Stop pretending you are so tough. I still have your scooter and My Little Pony collection waiting for you when you come home. Are we still on for ice cream tomorrow?

    Love

    Mom (aka bitch)

  • me and some buddies wrote the no scooters 3pm bitchs just cause we didnt want scooters their after 3pm because they would get in the way and shitttt

Vandalism os a sure-fire way to get you park shutdown. Stop being an idiot.

  • when it came to the deep end the builders had no clue what they were doing…..i helped with the shallow end but when it came to the deep end i was at work and was so disapointed when when i went over there after work and saw how much they messed it and the clamshell up. i ended up getting escorted out by the police for trying to show/tell them how to do the roundwalls in the deep end…it to me 10 years to get that park built and was bumbed when they screwed that part up…..

  • obviously, the taller concrete finishers weren’t as good as the shorter ones

  • I am thinking 3 PM bitches is a threat. after school there is gonna be a fight. no DIY structures allowed, but DIY rules are permitted. I do like that rule about no kids lining up all day to ollie the brought in obsticle over and over.

  • Grindline design:;:; Pacific-Tech Construction was the general (they did Vancouver Bomb-Shell bowls). They subbed it out to North County Concrete then they subbed out their shotcrete crew Vantucky style. The city wanted the lowest bid possible so they got what they paid for. Thats how it all went down partner don’t take no shit or you will get it. I like the Penrose Coping hip block in the middle of the cradle myself nice touch. The topplate kink in the deep bowl requires a dirt board of sometype.

Okay, I admit I’m a grammar geek. I love how many different ways that sign could be interpreted. Randy, that’s for the effort. Too bad a design/build crew didn’t get the job, but sadly they still don’t get ’em all.

  • When I talked to one of the builders, he showed me a print that was designed by Dreamland. However the kid was right about the average construction crew and limited skateboard volunteers. One of wich, some crazy dude named Nick! The legend of Brent and Rodd Marks have been around kelso for years. However I dont think Rodd designed the park. Maybe the old cramped ramp in the old movie theater in Longview.

  • oh, randy, that was such great session. thanks for an invite…

  • Man does that pool coping stick out! Barge it! That hill behind the park is fun to bomb. The asphalt is nice and smooth. It seems there are a lot of longboard larry locals that like to bomb it. We did it. It was fun!

  • Looks better then salem park 🙂 LOL

  • Gnarles Copinghagen

Looks like it’s time for The CouvNasties to come in and regulate! Those 3pm Bitches better watch out! The VanNasties are bad news too.

  • colinwalshrules

  • Looks nice; it’s daylight savings time. I am ready to start the missions.
