   i wrote a book about my life of skating and called it “the wooden toy.” on the first page i asked, toy, vehicle, art, or sports equipment?? a skateboard is ALL of these to me.

   athletic activity vehicle. sometimes used artisticly. once or twice as a weapon. a beer obtaining vehicle. something to counter the effects of the beer. eraser of the brain (what skaterhusseindave said). something to take seriously. something to keep doing. something you hurt yourself with. something you will be willing to hurt yourself with again, cos it’s one of the only things that makes sense in this age.

   All of the above.

   I started skating again for the “vehicle” and “exercise equipment” functions, but then I started designing my own on Boardpusher, and buying old nostagic crap on Ebay, and doing some halfass collecting.
   So, “addiction” should be in there somewhere as well.
   I need to remember the “weapon” part more…I was stalked at a few of my spots tonight in Vancouver by some Oregon redneck in a white 4X4, and almost bailed one spot because of them.
