Lazer Tag Skateboarding: Hotter than Ever

This gem of a commercial is an adolescent boy’s smorgasbord of dreams. It’s got skateboards, lasers, ATVs, a post apocalyptic Rollerball-style arena and a referee with a big rack. Come to think of it, that sounds like fun to me too. I think it dates to around 1987 because Worlds of Wonder essentially went out of business in 1988. Look the size of that bowl. I think it may have been built for the commercial.

Getting ready to drop in. Look at the rounded edges on that lip. This might be concrete, but it doesn’t look like any other skatepark I’ve seen pictures of.

Holy cow, it’s deep!

This is the rack we spoke of earlier, courtesy of another 80’s staple, gratuitous new wave vaguely threatening chic.

Look at the stunt choreography. That’s an ATV coming through the pocket towards the skateboarder. That’s semi-risky. The bowl looks pretty solid.

Peuw! Peuw! Peuw! Peuw! Laser sound effects and Haro pads?

This is the best shot I could capture of the bottom of the board. It’s been lightened severely. Any guesses?

This is the money shot. When you scrub the video back and forth it looks like he might be on wires. He comes really close to that ATV, and although the takeoff looks reall, he just kind of keeps floating, so it’s suspect. Somewhere, someone knows who the stunt riders were. Give us the scoop!

Watch the Lazer Tag Commercial, it’s hotter than ever. Then head on over to Greg’s Lazer Tag site for the nostalgia. I’m also looking for a VHS or MiniDV copy of this if anyone out there has it, please contact us.

  • I remember this mid or late 80’s? Lazer tag was big then. they also had a Photon where I lived it was pretty sick like really high quality lazer tag guns, fog, future space style game warehouse, 2 levels it would keep your score etc..
The commercial came out a while later when consumer lazer tag guns etc. became available.
The commercial was def sick. We only had some quarterpipes one vert ramp, ditches banks & some pools when I was a kid in Kansas.
Tv & Cali seemed to be the only place you could dream of skateparks etc.. sh like this.

  • Some where out there, there is a Max Headroom skate scene.

  • Brigitte Nielsen – who used to be Madame Stallone – was recently featured in a crap french TV show gathering old farts and dumb blondes in a farm.
As she doesn’t speak a word of french, she soon disappeared in oblivion …

    Brigette NelsoN has a face?!

‘gratuitous new wave vaguely threatening chick’ … HA! what happened to those?

yup gator was one of the main stunt guys,i remember this,,,,

  • I wasn’t sure I would remember that one, but as soon as it started, it took me back to my living room watching WGN after school. Probably a year before I got my first board, so this, potentially, had something to do with me wanting a board. Funny!

  • the deck looks like a mike mcgill

  • I recognize Ken Park too. I don’t think that’s Nelson. But I had a hard time looking at her face…

  • BRIGETTE NELSON IS THE BIG BOOBED CHICK…BEVERLY HILLS COP 2,COBRA,ROCKY 4 AND FLAVOR OF LOVE

  • I’m sure I’ve read a mag article about this, Thrasher or Transworld, can’t remember. The tall blond guy is Ken Park and I’m fairly sure Gator is in there too, not sure about the third guy though.
