Skate and Annoy: Daily

Gresham

Gresham, Oregon phase one nears completion.

Visited the new Gresham skatepark being built by Dreamland today and took a few snaps. There’s a lot packed into this thing. The park is about 7 miles east of the Ed Benedict skatepark on SE Powell Blvd. No word on opening day (the Gresham website calls for it to be subtantially completed in January 2010) or how soon before they start on phase 2. More photos after the jump.

gresham-bankThe lurker ledge is meant to provide seating but an air up to that top ledge and back in would be gnarly.

Gresham-big4Big stair gap with some easier options.

gresham-bricksBrick bank extension, there’s a relief of a salmon on the back of the extension.

Gresham-banktoledgeView to the north It’s a hip, it’s a bank to ledge and a bank to tractor-seat ledge.

Don’t waste your time unless you want to ride with BIKES, FRUIT BOOTS, AND SCOOTERS and a whole bunch of fuck wad, WT, kids, who leave there decks hanging over like diving boards.
And not to mention, Who ever designed that piece must have been SPUN OUT on METH for a couple months. JeeeZZZZus, that thing looks more like something Grindline might design and build. Gresham has to be in my little, hummble opinion the worst designed park Dreamland has built. The finish work, as expected was FANTASTIC! I

  • bill bowlrider

Skatepark is open as of 1/12/10 (per city of Gresham website). Can’t wait to try it out!

  • ive never skated a dreamland park that sucked so this should be good!

  • DickCancer

You hit the nail on the Head. Really good sense of humor and borderline genius, not retarted.
Obama’s Mamma that’s a funny. Can we go skate gresham yet?

  • jakeandannoy

    I’m sure that’s great news for everyone who was holding out for that this Christmas,but that still leaves more questions than answers. Like;
How does that get on a WA ballot?

Why am I the minority in being unfamiliar with this?

    Who pays for the wedding?

Is there no sense of irony for the guy who goes by “DickCancer” and implies I’m sick?
I dunno he’s either got an awesome sense of humor or almost retarded.

  • It is now illegal to have sex with animals in Washington unless you are from Kelso.

  • jakeandannoy

What are you crying about now?
Simmer down gramps or you’re bound to loose a poop to your depends. And Holy shit,I believe you,dude!-I’ve no reason challenge you on whether or not It’s okay to fuck a farm animal up here.

I’ll take your word that you fuck sick puppies,I mean I guess they need love too?

Whats with the caps lock on random letters?
Are you sending hidden acronyms to other cho-mo’s and serial killers?

Skate hard retard, and don’t fall down go boom boom.

  • DickCancer

there you go spouting more fecal matter. I didn’t research at home dink. I did the research in the park poopucker. how you like those new curse words ping pong gonna schluck on my ding dong. And you can stay in Washington were it’s legal to fornicate with animals on your animal farms. SICK SICK SICK puppies up there.
and furthermore you better go figure it out on your own, don’t tell me dreamland is the best because I say so, HIT the CRETe big mamma. I am sober and I’m just having what I think is a good time. you Can take that to Obama’s mamma.

  • Don’t take it personally, He gets that way. Me too if it’s gonna keep raining.

  • jakeandannoy

And I am home. Washington is my fucking home now.
And your making me feel awful unwelcome with all your pretend cursing.

I’ll try my best to “DO” more road trips but only because you barked it at me all big-shit-tough like.

If my comments piss you off now, try reading them when you sober up, dickhead.

  • jakeandannoy

    Ahhh..hey, thanks.
But I don’t think I’ll be going back to AZ soon since It’s been almost a decade, and I don’t give a shit.
I did just figure out Dreamland is the best, but only because you said so.
At least I know the order of builders from worst to best now so I can put in my book of shit that’s at the bottom of my list to care about.

    I do skate.

I’ll skate about anything cause I use my weekends for skating and not researching places to skate or who built them.Or who to yell at on message boards.

  • DickCancer

PHUCK Jake. Go back to AZ. You are pissing me off. You just spout fecal matter all over the place. Landimage, sitedesign, purkis rose, wally hollyday, wormhoudt, team pain, erik dawkins, air speed, place to ride, grindline, and the best skate park company you better figure it out is hands down, bar none, is DREAMLAND. The order of companies goes worst to best. DO some PHUCKING road trips and get to know some of these parks and park builders or go PHUCKING home. Do I need to come back and annoy. you phucking people need to go skate. quit being little bits, crying it’s to cold, it’s too wet, it’s to tight.

  • jakeandannoy

Yeah,SDG tends to have more flatground and spines even with the tranny sections.

    Dreamland is indeed about flow.

I was for some reason thinking of CA & AZ SDG parks
but associating Dreamland’s name, so I skate corrected.

    I concur about the lifers.
I consider myself as one and I am usually pretty happy to ride…. whatever is available.

  • Tom Miller

    Dreamland hasn’t built in Arizona.

Don’t tell the Dreamland guys you thought they built Chandler. That certain-death twinkie at the base of the hip in the big bowl is an example par excellence of something Dreamland would never do – which is destroy flow. Get Sage going on that, ha ha ha.

There are (at least) two consistencies in Dreamland parks: they always try to do something different, and they always prioritize flow. Those are observations from 10 ten years or so of skating the majority of their catalog. Most NW people commenting here have similar experience and, I suspect, would concur.

Growing up in AZ and returning annually for a visit while living in OR for the last 11 years, I have a lot of friends with lots of experience with the SDG and Dreamland parks. When I skate the SDG I get bored stiff because I’m acclimated to Dreamland-type terrain. At the same time, my AZ-based friends rip SDG terrain.

I think it just comes down to skateboarding. Lifers are malleable. They’ll skate whatever is available.

  • jakeandannoy

Yeah…Im kinda torn on that small bowl.
I like the shape and location and the speed bump is sketchy..there’s kind of a pocket too that you have to get used to but can be used to advantage for speed.
I’ll end this by agreeing that I’ve seen nothing comparable to the amount of good parks up here in Pac NW, anywhere else.

  • funny… i like the parks too but i wish we had some “im gonna shit my pants” stuff to skate as well. variety is good!!!

the bank w/jersey barrier and the twinkie are awesome. as well as the pyramid funbox thing. the coffin in the back bowl is not. and what about the speedbump in the smaller bowl…wtf!!!

  • jakeandannoy

I did not know that. The whole time I skated Chandler with the information that it was early work of Dreamland.
Now I have to find the source of that info and punch him in the back of the head while he’s drinking coffee.

The bank w/jersey barrier at top, and the volcano, and bowls adjacent at Chandler are tits.
I’ve always loved the street section there too and the size of it. Reminds me of Chino in CA.

I even like some aspects of Desert West, mainly we used to BBQ and drink like fish until we closed the place and the lights went out.
It’s all relative I guess,I’m not as gnarly as some when it comes to tranny. I remember, when they were having contests at Encanto to raise the $$ for Desert West, we went to the Circle K around the corner and saw a bunch of skaters packed in a little honda, their vigil on the front doors.
This skinny kid runs out with a case giggling “go,go,go”! The car started to peel out in reverse and…STALL! They were fucked.
Like the live show of “America’s dumbest criminals”.
    The end.

  • site design design/built chandler, tempe, etc
site design designed but california skateparks built goodyear, new chandler, new glendale, new tempe

i guess it depends on your preference when you say those parks are rad as hell. i mean, anyone can have fun anywhere if they really want to. but when you look at the park design and construction of the northwest… az doesn’t have much competition. most of the parks here are the same trannies and features rearranged.

my favorite park here is pecos because it’s got some quirky things in it. paradise valley is also fun…

when i say mediocre, i have lincoln city snake run in my head… san jose full pipe, etc. we have nothing like that here except maybe the keyhole bowl in tucson.

dreamland has no parks in AZ. grindline has one bowl (desert west) and one park (in tuba city – which site design designed)

  • 540’s zones bouta be doper

  • jakeandannoy

Also I said Glendale, I meant Paradise Valley.

  • jakeandannoy

Really? What about Tempe? Pecos? Those parks are rad as hell and Chandler used to be my favorite.
Found em far from mediocre…tho now that I think about it Chandler-I might be mistaking Dreamland for Grindline. I havent been to either of their websites in awhile.
But the only thing I liked about AZ were the skateparks. Do you know who made Glendale?
That park was rad too, with the chanel gap….
Anyway Battle Ground park is fun, and Tigard tho only been there once. Aw crap now Im rambling.
    You see what you’ve done?
Her life is your hands, dude.
Her life is in your hands dude.

  • jake – i don’t think there are any dreamland parks in AZ.. unfortunately, we suffer the monopoly affect of california skateparks… although phoenix does have ONE grindline bowl and one grindline park (designed by site design though)…i wish dreamland would build something here…

carl would probably love AZ. for such a rad scene, medoicrity seems to be the welcomed norm here.

  • Looks like a variety of small transitions & street terrain that young kids under 10 could ride. plus some cool gaps or options for more experienced riders. For the sq ft looks like they packed in a lot of options.
As far as a BMX er only being able to ride it?? I would hope that is a dumb sarcastic comment. Because if not, who is really keeping it real?

  • jakeandannoy

With all due respect, you’re high as a muthafuckin kyte.
Dreamland has made some really bad(as in good)ass parks in Az,Ca & Pac NW…this park looks rad from what I see triangle at the top of the speed hump a little weird, but fun.

  • Dreamland keeps skateboarding real by building parks that only a bmxer would ride.

  • that is going to be phun!

  • BJJPDX/Tom

its on the corner of roberts and Powell at the Main city park next to the chevron, just behind the vetrans memorial. Hopefully phase 2 happens soon, as this is only phase 1. Phase 3 is a cover over phases 1 and 2.

  • No it isn’t the City Hall site.

    Here’s the City website.

  • Looks interesting. A larger version of that overview shot used in the banner would be nice. Should be fun when it opens and the air temperatures are a little more hospitable.

  • A

Is this the one in front of City Hall? What’s the URL for that Gresham web site?

  • That is a long over due area for a skatepark…….awesome to see the progress- thanks Mark!
