eBay Watch - November 2009

eBay Watch: November 2009

I want to start off this month with a couple of rants, so forgive me please. First up, to all people selling decks on eBay, stop using terms like “Vintage” and “NOS” when you are selling a fucking reissue!! Using the word vintage implies that the deck is 20 years old or more. Your shitty reissue was made 3 years ago. The only thing vintage is probably the crappy PC that you used to type up the shitty sales pitch! The same goes with the term NOS. It stands for “New Old Stock”, meaning it’s an old deck that is as new, and has never been set up. When using this term, the inference is that it’s an old deck, not one that I could walk into a store and buy today. Are the sellers being unscrupulous and trying to fool ignorant buyers? Probably, yes. By inserting the word “vintage” you are making a claim that isn’t true. So stop. Also, while I’m on the subject of sellers that piss me off, stop listing the same deck week after week, month after month with the same inflated price! Look, it’s not rocket science. If your deck isn’t selling at $399 auction after auction, maybe it’s not worth $399 and the buyers by staying away are telling you that. But you are being too stupid to listen. It doesn’t matter what you paid for it 3 years ago, or what you think it’s worth. If you have it up for 3 consecutive weeks and it doesn’t sell, then your valuation is wrong and the current market price is lower. So lower the price or stop relisting the damned deck! I’m sick of seeing the same decks month in month out with the same stupid, unrealistic starting price on them.

    hello everybody :

if anyone could be interested in a 1991 powell peralt tony hawk machine gun mouse .

    please follow this link

    http://www.ebay.es/itm/110979938874?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_1288

    it is 3 days left.

    thank you

  • Holy smokes, the Todd Swank, Splendor Board is NOT just a wall board, I happen to have a old beat-the-fuck-up deck, and I tell you, she rides like a Dream! <3

  • Stickers above $150?….Peralta’s Ollie and you covered a Steve Steadham that sold for big bucks as well…the Powell Quick and ray rodriguez would all be over that. I’d also say a blue teardrop with skeleton in a large size would be stupid money too.

Life’s a Beach correction. They was bought by japanese guy (BadBoysClub popular only in japan I guess), but he never paid, ‘cuz crazy seller’s shipping charge 50bucks. It has been relisted 2 times after..in the end got 300bucks.

  • That T&C was my second board. Brings back vivid memories. Mine was red dipped. I ollied over another board for the first time on that.

Would be cool to have one some day but I’m not quite nostalgic enough to spend $300+ on it.

I fucking love reading this column every month! Great boards I haven’t seen for years! I had a black dip Steve Douglas I used to ride at the Roll and Bowl in Cleveo. Cut off jeans vest, chain wallet, all good. 5 bucks for Tracker soap? I’ll take two…

The mullen chess deck was relisted due to a non-paying bidder for this auction. Soon after, he re-listed it with a BIN of like 550. No sale. About 2 weeks or so later, he re-listed only the deck after removing all the stickers and cleaning it up. It sold for like 350 or so, don’t really remember. JUST FYI

  • Good work again Neil. I particularly agree with the intro comments. There has been a beaten up Shogo Airbeam on ebay for about 12 months with the same buy now price and no takers.

  • Flynnaryd

Thanks for the info on the Frank Blood stoked to have it in the collection

  • I dig THIS feature… not just the products, but your comments on them. Keep it up!.

  • Paul Votava was my favorite Roller Skater back then. He had respect from all the skaters because he was just an all around Gnarly guy. He would do rodeo flips in the capsule at Big O skatepark. He used to bounce/roadie for bands like

  • Hope all is well for the holidays. There were two Bloods. Fred was the roller skater and Frank was the skateboarder. Frank was a regular at Upland and was a good skater, he was sponserd by Sims and G&S. Fred also frequented the Pipeline and was one the three best vert roller skaters alive. Always thought Kenny Means was the best….Happy Vert Year! CS

  • Man, I wish I had spotted that Alan Peterson everslick. Probably the best board I ever had! Rode it to pieces…

  • nice grab on the wheels randy, i would of shelled out more.the packaging is chill , i wonder what they sold for in the day??

  • Aan Hoek

Kia ora Neil, thanks for the read!

  • A

I paid too much for those wheels, but I’m glad I have them, the packaging is kick ass. I geek out on stuff like that, I mean, well obviously, look where I’m leaving this comment, a shrine I am building (with help…)

  • Keep up the good work Neil. One of my favorite reads every month on the interweb.

  • houseofneil

Well thanks Thor and Eric. Looks like I messed that one up: I got my Fred Blood and my Frank Blood mixed up! Thanks for clearing that up.

  • Eric from Rotation

Fred Blood was a rollerskater who became a pro freestyle biker for General, with R.L. Osborn (after leaving Redline). Seems like 85’ish. Frank Blood, I have never heard of. Not 100% on that, but it’s what I recall. Another good month, thanks again.

  • If I am not mistaken I think there was a Fred Blood and a Frank Blood. Not related and one was a skateboarder the other a rollerskater. Both were around at the same time time and both got coverage. I remember attending the first Winchester contest and Frank Blood and George Orton were going at it in the highest air contest.

    • Elise Martinez

It seems to me they were know as the Blood brothers…and it was circa 1978…I remember that because I rollerskated vert back then and had a poster of the roller skating Blood on the back of the bedroom door.

  • I gave a friend a corey o’brien t-shirt some years back, she told me yesterday she just sold it on e-bay for $150 – japanese buyer

  • I don’t know the exact amount it sold for, but a PP Ollie Gelfand sticker went for at least twice what that screaming hand did…but at least the Gelfand is actually rare.
