Eugene Revisions

There was another meeting in Eugene Oregon to go over some design revisions. You may recall there were three previous contenders. Apparently Dreamland took a lot of heat for the duck and dinosaur sculptures in the public commentary. Mark Scott read some them aloud, to the enjoyment of everyone attending. I can’t believe that I talk to the guy who does these renders several times a week and still I’m posting scans of printouts handed out at the meeting.

– Thanks to Sarib Khalsa for the tip.

From Sarib:

We had a meeting last night where Dreamland presented two designs based on requests, suggestions, and feedback received since the first three. They said option “C” was chosen by like 78% in the online survey (thank God). The two new designs aren’t up on SkateEugene yet but here are scans of the printouts they had at the meeting.

These designs and feedback will be reduced down to one design and presented mid December. Then after more feedback etc. they will announce the final design in January. If the funding is within reasonable range by April, construction will happen this coming summer.

Seemed like most of the people at the meeting (including the Parks & Rec reps) preferred design E. I pretty much like everything about it. Besides the design features it is also laid out in a way that facilitates a shit load of people skating at once without getting in each others way.

The weird flower bowl looks interesting but I wouldn’t want to trade it for Design E. I hope it gets built somewhere though. What you can’t really see in the printout is that the center has a raised sort of mushroom head in the middle with tight trannies on its supporting column underneath. It is Marks creation, he was saying the idea is that you can air up onto it and then ollie back in on the other side. Crazy.

  • 3d walk through of both designs and a survey at skateeugene.org

  • the mushroom makes it look like a peyote button. since it’s red with spots, it’s supposed to be an amanita, psycoactive yes, but also toxic. I recomend a brown mushroom, like cyanecens, or what ever strain of pslocibin mushrooms that grow in Eugene that arn’t toxic. maybe some liberty caps?? I do hope to see it built somewhere.

  • The top one looks sick. The bottom one looks way too complicated.

  • the top one is still the best one

  • i prefer the top design , the mushroom thing is to
artsy fartsy for me. what ever is built who cares ,
    shut up and skate!

  • the chips and salsa bowl looks insane. Is that a mushroom in the middle?
