eBay Watch: September 2009

Another month has flown by and here we have another installment of Baywatch. There’s lost more goodies this month, and hopefully some that you have never seen before. The longer I do this the less inclined I am to keep on featuring the same decks from the same companies, high ticket items though they might be. There’s only so many ways to describe a Hawk birdclaw without it being repetitive, so I’ll choose something else instead. It might not be as iconic, or go for as much money, but that’s not what this column is about. It’s not a price guide, more a sampling of what I find interesting, and hopefully you do too. So, variety is the key for me at the moment.

Cool September…made my afternoon! I am unhappy with myself…passed up an agent orange for little dollars recently. I’m not that into that deck, but would have been a good trader looking at the price of the one in the column. Thanks again! (hey where’s the bootleg issue?) I love bootlegs! no I hate them. they’re the best.

  2. Aan, any relation to Ren?

  3. The Airbourne Red Hot Chili Peppers deck, that was the last deck i owned – It was theame all bar it was a red stain (which matched the graphics quite nicely) I am probably the only other person to own one, it was a great shape with a nice tail although the nose was a little on the short side.

I miss that deck, in fact, i miss all my skateboards……damn growing up

  4. I agree with you man, 90’s graphics were so lame…oh, and the tiny wheels and the fat pants too.

  5. When was that board produced? I’m diggin’ it.

I for one, do understand the hate for Shitbird since I’ve had the displeasure of meeting him a number of times and listening to the bs that he spouts, but now that I know what his board is worth (I have one somewhere) look for mine to go on ebay soon!

That shitbird deck is hot from its shape to its concave and no sag formica ply. Don’t think they make decks anymore. Dave merch is good stuff, but ask anyone who’s ridden for him why the shit talk.

  8. Duh, 1976. Guess I should read the article before asking
questions. The griptape kinda reminds me of the old
Banzai “Whaler” with the whale die-cut into the tape.
    Sweet.

I heard Shitbird asked Grime to pay something like $60 for one of the decks that he (Grime) did the artwork for, and didn’t even get paid for. That is the kind of guy he is.

  10. The Powell ‘Alladin’ graphic is an excellent example of what kind of joke of a company Powell had become during the early 90’s. I really liked the concept behind New Deal’s minimalism graphics. Their ads espoused a philosophy of ‘why put “expensive” graphics where they are just gonna get scraped off from riding’. If I remember correctly, New Deal was also one of the first companies to do away with wheel graphics with their release of ‘the nude eels’ wheel.

  11. …..Aan, any relation to Ren?…haha – good one….
