eBay Watch: July 2009

OK, first of all let me apologize for this being so late. I went to a family wedding in England and was gone for 2 weeks mid-August, and that’s thrown everything completely off for July and August. I was thinking about combining them, but I have so many decks that I didn’t think that would be fair and it wouldn’t make sense. So here’s July, and August should follow in a couple of weeks, but be aware that I missed 2 weeks of auctions, so I don’t have as many auctions as usual for August. SO if you won anything for big dollars, or if you got a huge bargain in August, let me know and send me the eBay link and I’ll include it in August.

There will be no music review this month because I’m so behind. Sorry about that. I was going to review Disposable 2, but I may not do that at all because I found it fundamentally flawed on many levels, but I’m sure it was a ton of work, so I’m going to leave it be.

geez super crap – don’t bother, what a disapointment.

Here’s another bootleg to check out for you! Deck on left has a blatant ‘Nordic Skull’ graphic on top of deck. I will ask the seller for more pics of botoom.

ebay OZ ‘Old school skateboards from 80’s! Fun for kids!!!’

    Cheers Aan NZ

  • The Fireball wheels on that Turner complete were RIDICULOUS – 75mm, and about 70a. Imagine having an oversize set of G&S Rollerballs, but way heavier, less manouverable. A bit like having wheels made of duct tape.

Great column Neil, and congrats on the Cab.

  • Excellent column, as always, Neil – congrats on the Caballero!

Those Stroker trucks are a trip…

a few years back my mom, who is in her sixties, started wearing that exact tie-dyed Vision fanny pack all the time. she found it at a thrift store. she was stoked. she thought it was “very pretty.”

  • Lance Mountain graphic. Awesome. Gay if you think otherwise.

  • Why so harsh on the S.T. graphic. What happened to punk Neil? Grinding a hip in the 80’s un-heard of in the midwest. I remember not even knowiwing what the hell that guy was doing. Iguess I just like the simple.

  • Eppic Skateboards was Jack Smith and Paul Dunn.

No way Thor, we can have a two man Techni Ski race down Tabor, start a club for enthusiasts, make techni ski stickers, start a forum….

  • Great article. Always look forward to it. I learned. I have been holding on to Tekni ski for nothing in hopes of someday recovering my medical expences trying to ride that thing.

One of my favorite columns of yours, simply because of the high proportion of decks that are off the beaten path.

Bronze Age: I always thought that was a clothing company.

Buck Smith: Very nice guy, and a ripper to this date, but that’s a horrible deck, looks like something from the Variflex XP lineup.

That Eppic deck looks sharp. Al their stuff had a distinct look to it. Very well thought out, even if the style didn’t appeal to you, they had a unique look. I can’t remember who was behind that company.

Techni Ski: i bought one of those in an auction, I paid about the same, but mine didn’t come with the poles. I would have thought this would have ended up in the “Assorted crap” category.

Dolphin: Errr…. Uh, I was the one that won that auction. What a waste of money. It’s funny, but WTF am I going to do with that thing???? And yes, it barely rolls.

Hobie Super Sufer: looks suspect, like it’s one of their museum quality re-issues, not an original. I’m just hypothesizing.

Turner complete: Easily the auction of the month. Those Stroker trucks and the fireball wheels that were a knockoff are enough on their own. That thing looks like it’s never touched asphalt.

Mark Partain: After he showed up at the masters in the Trifecta, we couldn’t remember who he rode for. So random that he made this month’s eBay watch.

Bill Tocco: Also random that he’s been discussed here lately.

Vision Fanny pack: I swear that fanny packs are making a comeback in the hipster crowd in Portland. I’ve seen a lot of people rocking them lately, like backpacks used to be in the emo crowd, mostly on bikers here, like fixies, not, Harleys. All black though, not neon.

Kia ora, and as always thanks for the hard work and massive column! P.S If anyone wants one of those citizen X decks, we have two (different models) in shrink, buy now about 45-50 US, on ‘trade me’ (NZ version of Ebay)
Pesonally i think the ‘Dolphin’ should be in the bargain section, it’s just fkn great! Look forward to August.Ka kite ano.

  • how about that Eddie Gomez pro model on Epic, where’s he been?

  • hey just letting you know that underhill was pink not red and is the only one around in nos up to this point… thats why it went so big
