Skate and Annoy: Daily

New Zealand D.I.Y.

New Zealand neighbor gave us a splur

I’ve got this mental notion that everyone in New Zealand is sort of nerdy but very interesting. I don’t know if Flight of the Conchords has had a positive or negative effect on the public image of New Zealand, but it’s one of my favorite shows. I’m probably annoying the hell out the guy from New Zealand who sent me these pictures by bringing it up. Then again, Eagle vs. Shark just adds fuel to the fire… Sorry Richard. Check out some DIY action from a crew in Papakura, New Zealand after the jump. I’m not down with the local lingo, so someone will need to fill me in on the definition of “splur.”

From Richard:

I’ve been checking out the skate and annoy site for quite some time now and see the DIYs that you always post. I thought it would be good to share with you one of my  first DIYs that me and a few friends slapped together over a few weeks down-under in Papakura, New Zealand in October last year. The first session on it was good however the neighbour gave us a splur and called the cops so we hit the street. They’ve been too lazy to rip it out so we get back there every now and again for a bit of a jam. So far so good.

And now my apologies to Richard and his crew, but I have to include these New Zealand-centric vids.

Bonus: Trailer for Eagle vs. Shark.

Bonus: Music video for She’s so Hot, Boom! from Flight of the Conchords.

I can’t get my cursed installation of WordPress MU to stop messing with the embed code for this video, so go check it out on the HBO site if this YouTube version get’s pulled.

  • Least you didn’t throw us in the LOTR bucket. I always refered to splur as in some blah blahs. Talking on and on about something, generally something that your not interested in or has no substance to it.

Gave it a wham in the “urban dictionary”, something completely different. What about rural dictionary, aa, relinked to urban dictionary…mm Take it how you want sounds like the answer. What about you guys from UK? We are but a British colony…

  • wow. i’m posting 2 hours in the future. awesome.

  • if reputing facts makes me crabby, then sign me the fuck up!

  • I kinda miss the Douche Yo too, should we let him back in for a week just to reminds ourselves how much vinegar he packs?

andI love bobcat most of all. Apart from daddyyo of course.

Oh oh. It’s going to be an argument between the two crabbiest guys on the internet, and I’m not one of them (this time)

  • I think Neil needs to get out of the house more.

  • A

Very similar to the Tenacious D story… Those guys blew up pretty big.

oh jesus christ. Do you have to argue about everything? Mainstream means primetime on a major network. Not 10pm on sundays on hbo. About 25% of the US population gets HBO. A tiny fraction of that watched Flight. It was huge on college campuses and that’s who is selling out the shows. The vast masses wouldn’t know Brett and Jermaine if they tripped over them. They’re too busy watching American Idol and Think you can Dance.

Neil’s from the UK too, so he probably doesn’t like it either.

  • Neil – if HOTC was so ‘select’ and ‘not mainstream’ why did they sell out here 3 nights in a row at a major venue theater (the Paramount) a couple months ago?

  • houseofneil

well let’s get real. Flight of the Conchords was a big hit on HBO with a very select group of fans. It was hardly a mainstream hit. And Eagle vs Shark was probably seen by about 30 people.

  • The u.s. can claim Arrested Development. that show was the shit.

  • To be honest, as a kiwi, I have always been very surprised that Flight of the Conchords was so popular in The US. Its humour is very NZ, kiwis tend to have quite a subtle and dry sense of humour so was surprised that FotC & Eagle vs Shark were well received in America.

If the US networks did a US remake of Kath and Kim, which is about outer suburban Melbourne and entirely based around taking the specific behaviours and traits of Australian suburbanites then they will try to put a US twist on anything.

  • Only a matter of time Kilwag…

The US execs are too busy working on the jazzed up version of the Mighty Boosh.

  • Looks like a good way to waste an afternoon.

BTW Whats is all the fuss with you guys in the States and Flight of the Conchords. I just don’t get it and that Eagle vs Shark film was shit too.

I’m surprised the US tv execs haven’t had the ‘brainwave’ of doing a US sanitised version as they do with all our UK comedies, hilarious

  • rough asphalt, cinder block wall and sketchy DIY tranny, looks like fun!

  • Viking DIY crew! Nice.

  • The fight prep and fight scene in Eagle VS. Shark awesome .
