Brewce Martin in critical condition

Skatopia founder Brewce Martin in critical condition

Skatopia founder Brewce Martin suffered a head trauma when a tire exploded at a tire shop near Skatopia. Updates as we get them after the jump.

From Skatopia.org:

Brewce had received major head trauma when a tire exploded in a tire shop near Skatopia. Surgery was preformed to relieve pressure around his brain caused by swelling. He is still in the ICU at Cabell-Huntington Hospital and listed under Critical condition as of June 18th, 2009 7:47PM.

Bowl Bash XIV 2009 will still be going on. We ask all bands, skaters, and patrons to attend to show love and support for Brewce Martin and his skateboarding legacy. You may find the band list at: www.skatopia.us

More from Facebook:

“Brandon (Brewce’s son) says the Hospital is STUNNED that Brewce survived brain surgery. The surgery is usually fatal, but wasn’t! Brewce is (once again) breaking records and healing faster than expected. He’s heavily sedated, since he keeps cursing & trying to pull all tubes out. The biggest party Skatopia has ever held is still happening next weekend & Brandon is A ROCK STAR!!! LONG road to recovery for Brewce as the front cortex of his brain was damaged when the tire exploded & cracked his skull.”

Our thoughts go out to Brewce and his family for a full recovery.

Facebook Update:

ICU is taking Brewce off of the breathing machine today. He’s still heavily sedated, but responding well. Swelling & bleeding on the brain is currently under control. There are about a dozen people at the farm right now, waiting on cement trucks to pour new hits, runs & bowls b/f the party. Looks like our positive thoughts and prayers were heard once again. AMEN!” Keep on Keepin’ On!

  • Brewce is doing well, healing & getting better, & organizing stuff & people at the compound! His friends are all rallying around to help his dream & vision of SKATOPIA flourish.
Amazing place with many things to skate. Growing at a rapid pace, I think its about to start a major construction snowballing effect, critical mass concrete building. I was very Lucky to be able to visit, the museum is an awe inspiring journey through time. Helped a little with new pour,& got to skate it, plus offer my artistic services for some embellishments around the farm. made it through the gauntlet & survived Skatopia. Epcot Center Punisher Bowl, Zinging out on the fullpipe, LuLa Bowl flowing & chaos in the Bowels of the Devil, Pool tournaments in the PBR room + all kinds of entertainment.
Good times At Builders Season & Builders Day with Captain Q, Red, Tobin, LJ, Lincoln City Heads, & others Much Love to SKatopia fam. from SkateArmy.. Rezin, Convict & Fam, Clay, HellSkull & Brewce, Amber, Henry, Sleezy, Tom, Potato, the Mechanics, the Milker, of course Dan Rae & the rest of the crew. Can’t wait till next years visit.

  • From a close friend of the family today
“Update for Brewce: He’s walking, talking & eating, all to the disbelief of the doctors. Brewce will most likely go to a rehab facility 1st, then to his Moms house in Parkersburg & then finally to the farm in Ruttland. The party was a smashing success. 82 bands showed up to play wed-sun. Brandon is doing well & STOKED his Dad continues to heal rapidly. Please pass this along. Aloha!”

yeah, brewce, you always had a warm welcome for me & my buds when we came down to stone edge – been meaning to get to skatopia forever, hopefully you’ll be rollin around asap for sure – get well soon, man & hang in there dude

  • I skated with this kid and his legs full of knee pads all the down to his feet. It was in florida at S-Henge. I was totally into ramp and he stayed in those pools. I had no Idea at the time how good he was. I just loved looking at those pads and thinking how cool it was that he made giant rector knee pads out of old bits, and he went and took it to a whole new level and built Skatopia. Guys like that always make it somehow.

  • long time friend back when you went to school in FLA. You used a rope for a seat belt to strap Brandon in your van when he was a grom. Best wishes and pull through. ectt, ogb, and all that!

  • HE DID NOT LOSE A FOOT!!!!!
i heard he did on Wednesday night, but yesterday morning I got a check up call and it was just a mix-up. someone overheard doctors at the hospital in huntington talking about a motorcycle wreck and thought they were talking about Brewce. He’s fighting his way out right now..It’s only a matter of time before he’ll snap out!
    Send positive thoughts his way!
    SKATOPIA JIHAD!!!!!

  • i keep hearing rumors that he lost a foot?

    can anyone confirm that?

rumor mills tend to get out of control.

    heal up brewce.

  • SURVIVE THIS SHIT BREWCY! I’m praying for ya!

  • Damn, years of barging around skatopia haphazardly, and it takes an explosion at a tire shop to put the poor bugger in hospital – Get well soon, Brewce!

  • According to wikipedia “The executive functions of the frontal lobes involve the ability to recognize future consequences resulting from current actions, to choose between good and bad actions (or better and best), override and suppress unacceptable social responses…” Looks like everything’ll back to normal after he recovers.

  • Indeed. Get well quick.
