eBay Watch: April 2009

First off this month I want to thank all of the folks who email in to tell me how much they enjoy the column, whether it be to the email address here or on skullandbones. I’m glad that so many people all around the world seem to enjoy my pontificating and nonsense. Also for those that send in links to auctions etc, that is much appreciated too. I may not use them because I don’t feature decks on price alone anymore. The photos have to be good, and something has to appeal to me aesthetically. But still, keep sending them in, especially if you see a bargain. They are difficult to spot.

  • Don’t you think this rad banana board was ment to be used as a butt board ?
Looks super easy to get on this way !
    Cheers from the West Indies

  • Who you callin’ a toy skateboard? Banzai’s official motto was “We’re no kid’s toy.” So there. I guess they had a real inferiority complex.

Hi, there! First at all – I really dig to read through your ebay watch !
You’ve mentioned the Logan Earth Ski Bruce Logan model in the April 2009 watch and were wondering why it did go for such less money! I think, there were a lot of fake-LES’s on ebay lately! And nearly everyone knows by now! On bulldogskates.com was a guy a while ago who claimed to have found a huge stash of old LES’s in a warehouse or somewhere and wanted to sell them for a few bucks – I think since then alarm bells started ringing in many heads !

I don’t know if the one you mentioned is fake, I’m no expert, but as long as there aren’t a dozen other bidders bidding on it I’d only bid on a Logan Earth Ski with due care!

    Cheers from Germany !

  • i really enjoi “eBay Watch”! cheers from Israel.

  • …had a Logan Earth Ski way back. Yes they were abitch to skate, just horrible. Funnily enough a guy appeared at my local park with the very same deck a few weeks ago, complete with bennets and tunnel rocks -and yep it was like riding a small coffe table with a wonky caster on one corner. How the f**k guys like Alva ect popped airs on these in pools i’ll never know!

ssk – that’s a good idea, about the comments actually, I’d have to switch to an entirely different type of back engine though, and it would play havoc with the design.

Still… I wonder if I can figure out some way to work that out in a popup or something.

  • the allen midget graphic is artwork by jay henry

  • It’s cool checking out the stuff you dig up.

I bet it would be kind of interesting if people had the option to make comments under each board.

  • I always like checking out the stuff you dig up.

I bet it would be kind of interesting if people had the option to make comments under each board.

  • Lance sure chose a classy shape for that FP board, a perfect fish.

too funny about the carpet guy. You must have spit out your coffee when you read that. I had forgotten all about those Eppic decks. Awesome to see they are still out there. (Weren’t the Mutants made by skull?)

  • Swiv would cream for those Strokers….

hey Eric Cherry, I love Cheapskates. Every time I go in there Ron will see me and my bros punk shirts and bring out his record collection or one of his old boards. Hes too gnarly.

  • I dont get how i miss all these autions, Anyone have a link to that jason lee support america auction?

i don’t think that Joe Cool board is a 70’s deck, 80’s more like it. There was probably a 1971 copyright on it. Peanuts stuff is weird. A lot of the merch from the 70’s and 80’s has a 1959 copyright date on it.

Good one this month, I dig the variety, not the usual lineup.

Dude, that Banzai deck isn’t a toy, those aluminum decks were cutting edge technology for narrow era, they certainly weren’t priced as toys, I know casue I coveted one of those in the 70’s and it seemed like an unobtainable fortune.

Funy thing is, you can buy NOS California Freeformer aluminums for something like $200 completely set up.

  • Yeah man, Roxy Epoxy and the Rebounds! My cousin Laura is the bassist for the Rebounds, and her brother Sean skates flow for Adidas. He’s sick, she’s rad, and Roxy Epoxy and the Rebounds play a great show. I’m glad they fueled this edition of the ‘Bay watch!

  • Man, this month’s watch is like walking into my favorite skateboard shop Cheapskates of Memphis, TN when I was a youth.

He had Eppic mutants (a variant of the same idea) for sale, as well as a few pair of Stroker trucks in his collection. Ron (owner of the shop) had and still has all sorts of cool stuff like that that he’d occassionally pull me behind the counter to check out his vintage wares. I shopped with him for over 20 years. Kinda like a cool Uncle that had a fat stash of Playboys he’d give privy to.
