February 2009. Much as in January, the economy might suck, but you wouldn’t know it on eBay. There were some BIG auctions that went off this month, and a lot of cash thrown around. Tax refunds really come to bear at this time of month, with collectors throwing their “free money” at any grails that happen to come up.
And there’s something else I want to repeat from my January column, and this is dedicated to 2 sellers in particular: “classicadsfromthepast” and “vintagogaga”. ENOUGH ALREADY! Stop cutting up old mags and selling the individual pages on eBay for $10! Nobody is buying your crap, so just stop! Your crap is overrunning EBay! Do a search fro Steve Douglas. You might find one deck, but I can guarantee that you will get about 5 ads come up in the search; all ripped out of 80s skate magazines. One of the sellers has very little feedback, and all that there is is from the same buyer that apparently can’t get enough of Tony Hawk ads, and who hasn’t figured out that he could buy the original mags and do the cutting out himself. Fuck me! This is as lame as all of those ads for the Yocaher aluminum decks from a few years ago!

I forgot to mention that I have been seeing some Old Ghosts decks on eBay being advertised as “Original” but are actually reissues. For a while, some of them didn’t say if they were reissues but they were. In the item description they just claimed that the decks were originals from a few years ago but failed to mention that the decks were reissues. Obviously they were. Just a heads up in case anyone comes across these Old Ghost decks. – Cheers! – John

Greetings! I am “vintagogaga” and just wanted to say that I LOVE skateandannoy.com, even though my skateboard ads were slammed in a recent article. I have to disagree with the article though… my crappy little skateboard ads are very popular! They sell like crazy! I have also had a handful of old school pros buy them. Seems that people were more interested in the ads from my old magazines then the mags themselves. Anyway, in response to Spark, try searching using “old skateboard”. I have found a handful of sellers that have no idea what have and they have item titles like “old powell skateboard”. Also try misspelling words, sometimes that works. For example, “alva skatebaord”. Hope that helps. Thanks again for a great site and the slam/plug! – Cheers! – John

Skated that Nolder in a natural wood and black color way. One of my favorite boards ever. The concave was great.
conahan
Don’t remember anything about the concave but they made a foam/Kevlar version right? I think I paid $75 and sold it to some kid for $45 when it started to mush out. I remember it was light.

Neil, what was the deal with the concave on the Schmitt Nolder? Didn’t it have some weirdo concave, or a like a concave tail, or some other concave innovation? Anyone??

Great relevant comments in this month’s baywatch Neil. Another fine job. Can’t believe that Steve Hirsch went for $66. That’s only about 2 bucks for every year it’s been sitting in the closet.
cold ones
The execution may have not be that great, but the name Tarampula is pretty much the best name of any skateboard ever.

I dunno Neil, I think you’d have to pay me to take that Town & Country board.
I dig that COrey O’Brien graphic.
Speaking of the Nolder and Tarampula, Schmitt Stix had some horrible graphics for a while. remember the ATV? Ugh.
Thanks for including the old Roll n Surf, and the plastic board too. I don’t know if that’s the kind of thing people are here for, but I really dig those kinds of relics.

As for searches, you’ve got the main ones down, but persistence is the key, especially for those BIN decks that might only be up for an hour.

Just another junkie. But appreciate it.
The bootlegs though neither attached to Salba or Santa Cruz only highlight ones motives though. And yeah, he has motives.
Good long running column.
A definite reference.
Keep’em rolling.

thanks my man. The insite of true experts is always most welcome.
Your site looks great by the way.
And those bootleg salbas weren’t too bad for boots. Some interesting colorways on those.

And not every Santa Cruz has a top logo. The dude selling the orange is the same dude that stormed on the collecting click trying to turn 20-30 bootleg Salbas. Kookalicious.

Yeah. Look, look, and look some more.
Pretty sure that Hippo is a mid or mini. And the one with the broken umbrella is a large. Get it.
The Nolder is sick. That is a second version. 1st version being a pig. This one being rather shapely. And I haven’t seen a NOS one offered up for sale the 7 years I’ve been looking for this crap. Seen a few, but never for sale.
Oh yeah… come to daddy.

Just wondering if you can share with us what your search criteria on eBay is when looking for decks? I traditionally look under a generic search for “skateboard decks” and also under the ‘vintage’ section in the skateboarding and longboarding area. Is there any other hints you can give?
