Sears Hot Dog Skateboard - 1965

Sears Hot Dog from 1965. Linoleum floor from 1985.

Mike Smith sent in these pictures of a recently acquired Sears Hot Dog skateboard from 1965. The reason I think is from 1965 is because it doesn’t appear in the 1964 or 1966 Sears catalog, and Scott Starr says 1965 was the big year for full page listings of skateboards in the toy catalogs. So was it the Mike Smith who sent the pictures in? I can’t say, because he didn’t answer. More, after the jump.

I received one of these skateboards for my 12th birthday. That was in 1963. I am 74 years old now and in the process of restoring mine. The original wheels are no longer available so I’ll be using something different. But the rest of it will be restored.

Those Elephant wrenches sucked big time. They were still being passed off as legitimate skate tools in the mid 80’s. Everyone would be bent or or all stripped out. I remember thinking “What the hell am I supposed to do with the flat screwdriver end?”

  • Long before skate tools, or even the thought of grinding.
I do have an elephant wrench with a wide flathead that would loosen those trucks right up.

  • i have a very similar one, a sears “woody” with steel wheels, the closest date i’ve found for that one was 64, still not sure if its right.

but the one above has to be the “new and improved” version of the one i have.

    • I just found an old woody skatebooard with steel wheels in the attic of a house i recently bought. don’t wanna sale, but any idea of approximate value?

You can retire a millionaire now. Swimming pools, movie stars.

        • I wish I’d kept the various Makahas and such I got a yard sales as a little kid. I had a GT Coyote, a Newporter, a bunch of fiberglass boards, and an ancient T&C.
