eBay Watch: November 2008

November 2008. The economy is even worse if that’s possible, but by the look of eBay in November there are still collectors with deep pockets out there. These shitty economic times have dropped some prices, but the truly rare and desirable decks are still going for big money. Where do some of these guys get their cash? Good question. Another good question is why do so many big money collectors come from Australia and New Zealand? Maybe the recession hasn’t hit down there yet. Maybe in 6 months time there’ll be a massive sell of from down there. Who knows? So to underline the trying times I have a new section this month: Bargains of the Month. Take a look and kick yourself. Maybe I’ll do it again, maybe not.

  • Sorry this is so late but I was searching for pictures of the Rocco Division skateboard and stumbled upon your website. I saw that the SMA board sold for $500 on Ebay but it had a white background. Do you know anything else about this deck? I could not find much detail about it.

Anyway, I have this skateboard but it has a silver background. I want to restore it because the paint has faded a little bit. I am trying to find an original picture but to no avail. Do you know where I can find a photo to match the color? Also, do you know how much it’s worth? I have no intention of selling it but I am curious.

I will give you the going rate of 4 cartons of cigarettes and my desert for a week for the ‘Gator’

  • I have a Vision Gator from 1986 (still in bubble wrap). How can I go about selling it? I saw o here you have one that went for over $400. Hit me back?

  • btw – do you have any intention to edit your Bay Watch section ?
I am waiting for the second edition of “Disposable” – and I would definitely love to read your comments in a paperback format.
    Think it over !

  • It is always a pleasure to read your comments !

Can you “translate” for a poor French what you mean by “seen on AOS” – a kind of guide, book ?

I am trying to identify the “Kryps through the ages” on my blog – apart from a nice British site you must have come accross, and some well known ebayers, where can I find ressources about the wheels of the late ’70s, 80s and 90s ?

Thanks from Guadeloupe, French West Indies !

  • Nice Baywatch as always. Love reading your article and i look regularly to see if there’s a new one. Thanks from germany!

  • good job neil.love the bargain section.bring it back please.love from OKC home of the flaming lips.

  • Gidday from NZ. Things are getting tough here too now and there has definitely been a lag. The currency drop in recent weeks has made buying near impossible but selling on the other hand is good.
Great column Neil- A lot of work’s gone into this month.

  • I’m wondering how the Hawk Screaming Skull(that went for 88 bucks)is pictured in a disassembled state! It was a complete set up for the auction, and displayed as such. How do I know? I bid on it, and was pipped in the last seconds… Hmmmn, did H.O.N grab himself a bargain!!?

  • danny webster had awesome frontside inverts. he was a cool ass dude. he gave me a 12″ g&s authorized dealer sticker which i still have. he’s fucking cool.

  • houseofneil

mike, thanks. But teh bargains section is a tough one to do, because coming across them is totally random. I’ll try though.

  • houseofneil

Brad, Danny Webster had 2 versions of the phone graphic. This is the 2nd. I guess the story was so epic that it needed telling twice! Or maybe one was a mini and one was full size?

  • Splatter!!!
    AHHHHH!!!
Yes, I realize it’s crap, but I have a sentimental attachment, and a love of kitsch!
I also still have one of the wheels from mine…and used to bomb a hill near here with it.
    …not very well(many bails), but still…
…although, my nostalgia may be a bit cheaper than $200…
    …which is why I have a secret backup plan…

  • great stuff as always.
bargains is my new favorite section, definitely make that a regular feature.

Remember this one? It is a Tracker

  • That square tail on the Gray is odd…

I always thought Airbourne was Steve Schneer’s company for some reason. Anyway, it’s hard to tell from that tiny picture, but Peanut’s deck looks like it could have been related to that crappy looking Kryptonics Ripstick.

I’m going to see if I can get Jim Gray to weigh in on that deck.

  • Prickly Pete

The Cooper SK100 is also the only helmet I can think of where the stitching goes through the plastic shell to attach the 1/8 inch thick foam.

  • Skull & Sword reminds me of a time that I thought PP was hardcore, cuz they were

Are you sure that’s the Danny Webster “phone” board? I had one of those and it didn’t look like this…

  • Simply Stupid

A surfer publication, I am glad that is not the case any longer. Now we have SKATEBOARDER publications. YEAH FREEDOM.

    I want that makaha board.
