Corvallis skatebowl painted

Vandalism or community pride?

An anonymous party painted over a graffiti covered bowl in the Corvallis, Oregon skatepark a few weeks ago. It was a solid one color job that covered existing graffiti, including the usual genitalia and swastika nonsense. When the city eventually got around to cleaning it themselves, they were annoyed and/or potentially embarrassed to find that the park users had taken matters into their own hands. They plan on spending an estimated $500 to remove it, an the police are treating it as an act of vandalism. Brilliant! Way to instill a sense of pride and community. I imagine the local activist group, the Benton County Skateboarding Alliance will have something to say about this. I leave it to them to take action, but we’ll report here if anything noteworthy happens. Fight the good fight! – Thanks to Danimal and Joesf for the tip.

i love the wholie lord. a pool plan has been sent to red and awaiting to hear back…. if only people in this town would buy BCSA gear (sweat shirts, t’s) we would be oh so close to a park. keep your eyes out for upcoming fundraisers and art shows!!!

  • Thanks for the pics Ryan. Joesf, that looks rad!

  • A lot of assumptions are being made about the potential for a new bowl in Corvallis. No City money is expected to be involved, and only a quality skatepark builder will do the work.
The BCSA is aware of the potential issues around working with the City. There has been great results working with the City so far. Corvallis will never have a real pool if we don’t try.

If we all pitch in to buy you a hooker, will you quit ranting?

  • nweyesk8

It goes all the way back to an event at the 666 bowl 😉

hey Collin, give me a call and come skate the fish pond and let’s talk….

  • colin walsh rules

word, but dont talk shit about the BCSA they are trying to give corvallis a name, other then a bunch of wet beavers in the winter.. he he.. you would think a college town would have a sweet park. or how aboru OSU building an indoor park.. im sure they have extra $$. or buy me a hooker

  • nweyesk8

and honestly collin, I would rather make peace. I feel the best way to get real change in this town is to do it yourself. I have some plans for a DIY project after I finish my fishpond, And I could use help. I want to go and build a pool gorilla style….

  • Nice pics ryan. That helped with the scale. Looks fun and covered to boot.

  • Here are some pics Mark.

  • Post a photo of you skating that thing so we can get a sense of scale.

go fuck your self. you are a lazy stoner that plays dungeons and dragons all day long. if you dont think it will get built then why do you donate $ and art to the BCSA?

  • nweyesk8

and yes, I’m pretty happy to skate my fish pond daily.

  • nweyesk8

I don’t foresee the BCSA’s effort getting anything built in Corvallis. Even if the initial 10,000$ is raised, you are still expecting the City to take care of the rest of the costs of building a new bowl, somewhere in the 50k$ area, if your lucky. If the city is involved in the park addition, then we will be stuck with another lowest bid builds the park, just like the current park. As to your accusation, MR Walsh, I have four people who can verify my whereabouts on the night in question, from the hours of 6pm to midnight, can you say the same? plus, I was actually under the impression that the paint job was done with permission, because it was done so openly. It was with much consternation that I read about it in the local papers police reports as an open investigation into it as an act of vandalism. I don’t know who painted it, I only know what other people have said….

  • colin walsh rules

i would agree w/ dag…. many other parks get painted and no one cries about it…

  • colin walsh rules

you know what you did. keep your comments to yourself. if you want a new bowl in this town dont talk shit to the people that are raising money for it. i guess u are happy w/ your little fish pond and dont see a need for a REAL bow or pooll in corvallis. your commetns on the gazette times website and the BCSA blog are not cool. i think you painted it actually. you with all your lights…..ah poop sticks in the freezer.. im going fishing.!

I’ll have the three cheese feloni with extra garlic and a little side of marinara.

  • That’s a felony. At least now these assholes with spray paint will have “street cred”–whatever that is. Have fun submitting your DNA to the felon registry, boys.

  • nweyesk8

    what did I do now?

  • A painted bowl newsworthy? Mountains out of molehills?

The BCSA thinks the painter did a good thing, but the storm that surrounded the issue did bring one thing to light–keeping offensive graffiti cleaned up at the Corvallis skatepark.

Could the Corvallis Park and Recs paint the bowl and clean other graffiti park areas more regularly?

Or, BCSA members already volunteer hours for Park and Recs to occasionally clean out debris and sweep the park. Maybe, sanctioned graffiti clean up (and bowl painting) could be added to the volunteer work.
