Skate and Annoy: Daily

Weekend Wizardry

Many professional athletes have intense cross-training, strict diets, and other extreme measures to promote their athletic prowess.  Skateboarders, however, seem to ignore such conventions and consume massive amounts of beer.  A new game has arisen out of this demand for quantifying one’s drinking abilities: Wizard Sticks.

The rules are simple… when you finish a beer, you duct tape the empty can to the bottom of your next one.  When the stack is higher than you, the distinction as a “wizard” is made. This game has been gaining increased popularity in skate circles, with coverage in places such as Jackassworld.com.

Patrick O’Dell, creator of the popular Epicly Later’d video series, spoke to the CBC in an article relating to this game.  “When everyone would gather around the campfire, we’d call it wizard’s council,” O’Dell said.  The above picture was taken by O’Dell at a wizard’s council, and showcases the abilities that certain pro skaters have with sorcery.  O’Dell added that a beer company that advertises on his online programs was even interested in promoting the game, but in the end it violated rules dealing with glamorizing excessive drinking.

There is an interesting phenomenon here in the Pacific Northwest.  Although there is a world class microbrewery on nearly every corner, skaters are usually seen drinking PBR tall boys!  Do wizards earn blue ribbons, too?

Here at Skate and Annoy, we do not encourage dangerous consumption of alcohol.  Be responsible with your wizardry!

  • seems chill

seems chill, but man drinking beer blows compared to drinking reall alcohol man.

  • Not bad, Brent! A wizard’s prowess is automatically erased when he leaves his staff and begins drinking from pint-glasses, shot-glasses, bottles… Ouch! ..the horror…

  • Actually, it ended up being a 16 beer staff. Not claiming any level of awesomeness, but it enhanced my drinking experience last night greatly. Also, the wizardry was before we went out to the bars, although I don’t think I did so well down there…

  • zed-word

You drank 14 beer’s and you think that makes you wizard? That is muggle talk!

  • if i could figure out a way to post pics, i’d display my grad photo from wizards school . i was right on with the 14 estimate.

  • working on this right now. i think it’ll take 14 beers to reach wizard status. i can’t wait. walking around with a staff in training is pretty awesome. i feel important.

  • damienhialation

Since I’m so tall, would I be a grand wizard? I don’t know if I’m down with that!

  • I wish I was taller.

  • Correction made, Greg N. It is a height thing, not quantity.

  • shoot… trying to provide photographic evidence and not working. Maybe this:

  • Wizard staffs are out…
Putting your thumb through a can to shotgun it is in..

  • That photo must have been snapped just before those guys started assembling the Inglewood Street Plaza…

  • Actually I don’t think you become a wizard until your staff is as big as you.

  • Does it count if you drink girlie light beers AKA Bud light, Miller light, Coors light etc….?

  • Man I wish I came from the US it all looks so much fun…..

  • when you get to 10 cans its called wizzard stick, but 15 cans are wizzard staff…..go back to school :)))))

“Here at Skate and Annoy, we do not encourage dangerous consumption of alcohol”

  • is it me or does this seem somewhat Homo-erotic?

  • Of course… the cans are always good ole red, white, and blue!
