August 2008. I’ve tried to focus on some more unusual stuff this month, tried to change things up a bit. And sorry this is late, but I’ve been studying for one of my Apple certification exams, so I haven’t had much spare time. I passed it yesterday though with a score of 98%, so I’m pretty stoked. And the funny thing about August, there were more big-ticket decks in the 70s and 90s sections than in the 80s. Unusual that. Probably a first.

I recently came across a Ray Bones Rodriguez Peralta in my garage. Its worn out but all the art work is still there. Do you know any way for me to find out exactly what year this model came out, and how much it would go for?

Hey, I always enjoy reading your Ebay watch article, crazy how much some decks are sold for and it makes me wish I kept all my old gear.
Just one remark about the Uncle Wiggley deck featured in your August Ebay Watch. Uncle Wiggley boards came with some kind of build in nose protector system (3 or 4 rivets that went through the nose). So I guess when the guy said it was (near) mint, maybe he was right after all.

The first “Wiggley World” shape was 100% designed by John Schultes, but he was an amateur at the time, and UWS wanted to keep him in that class, hence the earlier version’s statement “Designed by John Schultes”. That’s from John’s mouth to my ears. This version was his first “Pro” Model with them, and was just a slight rework of the art, nose and wheelbase.

I had a Thruster in blue. I think they were Madrid’s answer to the popularity of the Santa Cruz Jammer. “Street” was just starting to take off and people wanted smaller boards… like the PP General Issue.
Those Spiro-graph R/S 10s were lame. They were thick and weren’t even concave. The old light blue R/SC (concave) were my favs.

Brad, I know what you are saying, and I’ll check my 1985 Thrashers tonight. The seller had it being from 1985, but that might be because Art of Skateboarding has it being from that year, so he might have gotten his info there. I will check, but I know it was pretty early on, and before the House of Kasai debacle, right after the Splat.

Neil, good report this month. I like seeing the obscure decks and this month had quite a few. That Metallica deck looks hilarious. I’d lover to take ride on that. The Madrid board is interesting too. I’m wondering if there was a brief time when Rock and Rolls were called thrusters, you know, before thrusters were called thrusters.

Neil, is that Lester really from 1985? Considering the shape of the nose wouldn’t it have taken a bit longer for this specimin to evolve following the introduction of the Hosoi Hammerhead, hence placing this more in the 86-87 “moneybump” era of design? Just curious, you are the expert.

Also, I guess like Darryl says, that Uncle Wiggley was fitted with those nose rivets in the factory, it wasn’t drilled for a nose bone. I guess the nose would shatter on impact, probably with all of the walljam impacts!

And the Uncle Wiggley John Schultes is apparently the second version of that deck, the first having the “wiggley world” line under the graphic, along with Epoxy/Glass and UWS in big letters. In very small print above the back truck it says Designed by John Schultes. I assume they changed it to make the skaters name more prominent on there.

The only person(s) dumb enough to put 3 trucks on the Metallica deck would be…Metallica. I can just see them belly-boarding backstage at some arena on it, and I cringe. No wonder Battalion of Saints told them to get the fuck out of their dressing room.

I think the Uncle Wiggly expoxy/glass decks came with those rivets in the nose, rather than that being drilled for a nose guard.

The Jay Adams deck was one of the reproductions. I was the one who sold it to this guy originally and in my original auction I stated this. This guy wanted to make a crap load of money and sold it as an og. I emailed the buyer after the auction and he actually knew that it was not og and decided to bid it up and not pay for it.
