Oregon Trifecta 2008: Battle Ground Coverage
Day three of the Trifecta and I may actually be getting worse as a photographer instead of better. Half of these pictures look like they were taken underwater. I remember having some sort of technical issue with my camera acting up, but it’s been two weeks since I’ve looked at the pictures, and it’s all a blur, sometimes literally. I think I caught the equivalent of Gulf War Syndrome from the Trifecta. Trifecta Syndrome manifests itself in laziness, general malaise and increased frequency of excuses.
You may wonder why I chose such a mediocre action shot for this post. It’s true it’s not a great skate shot or particularly well exposed for that matter, but I do like the way you get a sense of all the eyes focusing on the skating, from the spectators to the photographers to the video camera boom.

Do they use that dogpile format in other contests or is it just in here? Maybe it should be called the Northwest Meatgrinder. A competition is a jock event so why not hold it in a jock park? Move it to another weekend or hold all the contests at the coast – too hot inland.
but three years at battleground, according to choppy, has been a great success. I am curious why it is still called the ‘Oregon’ trifecta, shouldnt it be called the NW trifecta. Maybe next year Friday at LC, Saturday at Hailey, and Sunday at some park in Northern Washington. The real goal of the series will be to simply show up at each contest…
Two years, not three.
tha’ contest should be held at corvallis, philomath and then siletz…oh the possibilities.
I don’t get a lot about of the trifecta, corn cup in tigard? battle ground when was that in oregon? when I was in tigard it was like 103 out and guys were throwing up with 10 min runs. didn’t look like much fun.
I know that, but choppy didn’t seem to be aware of it in his web cast interview 🙂
OK I get it now. I didn’t see it. Sorry.
siletz is actually a pretty fun park
salem, canby, and vancouver 1
whah wahhh! Call the wahhhmbulance! People got hurt, the contests are so far apart, one was in Washington, the jam format is sooo Scary, it was too hot, some jerk(filmer) Tyler Gust or somthing stole an award, people got paid and paid well this year, it was covered on the internet and had more sponsors, not as many people were there, not as many pros visited. I need a napkin.
At least we got some sh-0t krakin up here, and core heads do come through and visit and give us props & respect on our dope parks. We are lucky we even have any parks and any contests that are not super corporate nightmares.. The real downer is that with all this coverage of the NW on Trifecta the Dew Tour & Portland on Espn & NBC is that the parks might get really busy, well that might actually be fun too to skate with them if they are good people that come to ride from aroud the country & world and give our parks and us respect. We are setting the standard, we are the SkateArmy. I’ve opened my doors many times and enjoy the mutual appreciation when I am traveling..
yeah all this needs to be ironed out a little, but it is still going & could be getting better regaurdless if contests are cool at all at least people get to visit, I’m living not bitchin.
Gimme a break. Jam format rules. A helmet wouldn’t have done anything besides keep two dudes out of the hospital. If that’s too many rules for you, why go to or watch an organized contest in the first place.
And if nobody ever complained, chances are Choppy would still not be paying everyone.
Is ranting not bitching? I’m just saying… 😉
Great Contest. I had a better time at Trifecta then at Dew Tour and Trifecta was free.
Chopper is a real piece of work!!! However, I do feel like I’m living a dream with skatepark, after skatepark, after skatepark and some of the best attitudes around, it’s good to skate.
Sure is! And it just keeps getting better.
