Portland Sentinel on Skateboarders Without Borders

There’s blowing out a spot and then there’s really blowing it out

I got back from vacation and found a free monthly neighborhood paper sitting in the pile of neglected mail. The cover story of the Sentinel is Skateboarders Without Borders. It’s about local D.I.Y. project that is not so much of a secret, but still, the article pretty much gives the exact location and shows a landmark photo that all but draws a map for you. On top of that, the author interviewed the current land owners. I heard there was a “bust” of sorts during construction but that there were no real consequences. If they weren’t already numbered, my guess is this spot is about to become extinct. I hope the guy in the interview used a fake name.

The Sentinel has the article online, but the real treat is the narrated slide show by the author, who sounds like he needs to lay off the quaaludes.

The Skateboard Archives has at least two photo features (Count ’em: One. Two. ) on the spot dubbed Pirate Town.

Well guys, I hope you had fun while it lasted. Who knows, maybe it will become semi-legitimate.

  • this spot was already blown out.
there was like 20 cars of people one day before this even came out.

  • Ha, “Not Superfun”. That’s interesting, because when we first found this spot sometime back, we dubbed it the “Superfun site” because all that I knew about the location was that it is a Superfund site, with toxic chemicals and all. Anyhow, interesting to hear it coined as “Pirate Town” or even “The Aviary” (As per the photo feature a few weeks back on skatedaily.net…) anyone else catch that, actually? I think that was the beginning of the end.

  • It looks like Miracles, the rec center from Breakin

  • your wheels are too big bailgun. You need small wheels to grind a wall.
    REally small.

    ok, you can’t use wheels.

  • the sentinel requires no login or registration to post comments.

    just saying.

  • NOT superfun.

  • I miss my spot

yeah, people in Portland really know how to blow out a spot.

Maybe the Sentinel can email out directions to this place.

  • was waitin for you to comment, i couldnt believe
it when i read this blow-out. never been, not sure i
would now. those guys in the (blow-out)story should
lay low for sake of keepin a photo worthy smile.
but it does look pretty killer though!

  • its a pretty advanced maneuver. i’ve tried and failed many times at grinding a wall.

  • I need to learn how to grind a wall.

  • MongoChongo

I can’t believe they let someone do an article on the spot but since it’s blown out, thanks for the lead looks ruff and sick and mostly under cover something Portland has needed for some time now. Looks like skate party squat heaven.

  • It looks like Miracles, the rec center from Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. They need to get Ozone and Turbo out there to throw a big benefit.
