Jay Adams in the New York Times

New York behind the Times

This is kind of an old item already, but for some reason the New York Times has picked up on the release of Jay Adams from prison. I had wondered whether he was officially done with his time or whether he was on some sort of probation. The Times says he’s at a halfway house serving out the remaining months of his four year sentence. I’ve often wondered how that whole prison release thing works, fortunately I don’t know the details. Looks like he’s working for Hurley maintaining their private skate facility. Check out the pic above right. Apparently Hurley is exploring a marketing image that wants to intimidate the hell out of prospective clothes buyers. You can get the full effect at the NYT article by enlarging it. I wonder if Jay knew that the prison he was serving time in was only about 15 minutes away from the world class Aumsville, Oregon skatepark? I thought I read that he took a cab to a bus station in Portland. With Hurley’s parent company Nike so close in Beaverton, Oregon you’d think someone could have picked him up. I can’t find that bit of info anymore, so I might have imagined the cab ride. I know at least one soul who would have jumped at the chance to provide the hour long lift. No, it’s not me, but I mean, if I was already on my way back from Aumsville, sure I’d stop for him. Jay’s caught a couple of breaks lately, here’s to hoping he can stay free. Although, you’ve got to bet that Hosoi wishes he had Adam’s lawyer, considering he seemingly had a harder time getting released for lessor offense and comparatively nominal criminal history. Insert derisive Steve Olson comment on skate bloggers here. – Thanks to TK, Mac and about a 20 other people for the tip.

“Most of you guys/gals in here need to reevaluate what your goals are on sites like this! Talking shit is fucking stupid! Jay Adams is O.G. And deserves to be in our thoughts and prayers not on the downside of our own idealisms and insecuritys! Punk is punk no matter what u think dead or alive its still punk! I hope Jay knew Aumsville was close to him because he is close to us Aumsville Loc

  • Ryan Heckler

Actually he was in a federal facility outside Sheridan. He was never close to Aumsville and the park in Sheridan sucks ass.A true punk says fuck punk rock…

Most of you guys/gals in here need to reevaluate what your goals are on sites like this! Talking shit is fucking stupid! Jay Adams is O.G. And deserves to be in our thoughts and prayers not on the downside of our own idealisms and insecuritys! Punk is punk no matter what u think dead or alive its still punk! I hope Jay knew Aumsville was close to him because he is close to us Aumsville Loc’s! His style is still something we respect no matter what choices he has made in his PERSONAL LIFE! My advice is shut up and skate people! Without guys like J A we wouldn’t even be skating let alone talking about it! I’m out this shits lame

  • Punk Rock? Go to the Funhouse today Marginal Way benefit in Seattle You’ll see some punk rock. One of the best punk bars around..And if anyone has anything to say I’ll punk them with a rock & roll Lol..
    Whats punk?
    Whats a sell out?
    Whats a blogosphere?
Talkin on the internet aint sayin much. sometimes…
Its sunny in the NW get out of the house foo!

  • Prickly Pete

Jay looks highly constipated in that photo on the right. Is he dropping anchor or what? He now cleans the toilet where earlier he shat. Poetic.

Yes that’s right, punk is dead
It’s just another cheap product for the consumers head
    Bubblegum rock on plastic transistors
Schoolboy sedition backed by big time promoters
    CBS promote the Clash
Ain’t for revolution, it’s just for cash
Punk became a fashion just like hippy used to be
Ain’t got a thing to do with your or me

Movements are systems and systems kill
Movements are expressions of the public will
Punk became a movement cos we all felt lost
Leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost
Punk narcissism was a social napalm
Steve Jones started doing real harm
    Preaching revolution, anarchy and change
Sucked from the system that had given him his name

Well I’m tired of staring through shit stained glass
Tired of staring up a superstars arse
I’ve got an arse and crap and a name
I’m just waiting for my fifteen minutes fame

    Steven Jones, you’re napalm
If you’re so pretty vacant, why do you smarm?
Patti Smith, you’re napalm, your write with your hand
    But it’s Rimbaud’s arm

And me, yes, I, do I want to burn?
Is there something I can learn?
Do I need a business man to promote my angle
Can I resist the carrots that fame and fortune dangle
I see the velvet zippies in their bondage gear
The social elite with safetypins in their ear
I watch and understand that it don’t mean a thing
The scorpions might attack, but the systems stole the sting
PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD

  • don’t forget the smut peddlers kilwag. and lawnmower deth, well, before “billy” anyway.

  • A

Disco Inferno, by the Trammps 1976! and I quote “Burn baby burn! Disco inferno!”

Only one rule for Disco, got to be funky.

  • enemy combatant

    “Burn, baby burn! That

  • A

No doubt. Burn, baby burn! That’s the way, (uh huh, uh huh) I like it.

Punk is dead. Except for the Spits.

  • i think disco had less rules then punk rock

  • I thought punk rock was a kind of music from the seventies.

  • enemy combatant

Paige, your post is not logically coherent. That’s VERY punk rock!!! 😉

  • I like how people judging what punk rock is and isn’t point to brand names and selling out as a first resort when they have no idea what you’re talking about.

It’s punk rock to do what you want and still bring home the bacon, no matter who signs the checks. It’s punk rock to not give a shit how someone else makes their living and get a job yourself. Parents with punk rock in the heart are the best parents in the world.

Anymore, punk rock kids make me sick with their attitudes. Skate on and eat asphalt, jerkface.

  • Kilwag, if you don’t mind I’d like to borrow this eloquent term form your lexicon because it’s so appropriate here…QUIT MUMBLING!

  • Propinas

Jay’s not punk rock anymore. NIKe ain’t punk rock. Hurley ain’t punk rock and Jay needs a check and has to eat his punk rock lifestyle. He’s got a family and kids, it’s time to get your shit together. For FUCK sake Jay skate or quit frontin like you still skate.
And to all you kiss asses “shut up and skate”

  • probably more punk rock then you…or is he?

  • Propinas

Jay is just to Punk Rock…or is he…

  • Yeah Jay Adams, hopefully you got to check out Burnside for the first time before you flew out of Portland.! Respect from the Burnside Projects.

  • corncobcock

stack the deck Swooshstika! More desperate soldiers.

  • …allright chill Capone, you wrote the stuff…

  • A

    Adams priors were heavier.

  • A

Yeah, when someone plays the “We’re all hardcore bros” angle, why would I get that impression?

You’re certainly off base with your ability to recognize sarcasm. Or spell. Blog off, dud.

  • also..Hosoi apparently had TONS of priors that he never appeared for and just ignored the court dates…that’s partly why they threw the book at him.

  • But your certainly off base on one point- why would you ever expect someone’s employer to pick them up from prison?? Blog on dude.

  • He will probably enjoy increased freedom (i.e. not that of a halfway house) via electronic monitoring if the courts are impressed with his progress. If he violates his parole in any way, Jay Adams is most definitely fucked. I know he’s human, but it sounds as though he’s on thin ice and four years isn’t so bad for accessories to major interstate drug deals.

  • I thought the Charles Manson tattoo was a nice touch.

  • Step one on how to make your clothing company valid in the eyes of skateboarders…build an indoor training park at your warehouse then hire Jay Adams as the facility manager.
