the new SF park is right on my bus route on the way home from school so i am super stoked and i will be skating there everyday from about 3-6 or 7 on the week days and all day on the week ends depending on how lazy i am ill be at the park or scoping out spots around the city.
the dude
bondo bondo bondo, stong, kinda cheap and easy to apply

went to pot hill last night and the coping is getting mighty rugged. it’s a nice harsh grind but on several of the blocks half the grout between the blocks has fallen out. any quick fixes for this? i know absolutely nothing about repairing coping blocks. anyone?

if you’re talking tri-valley area, livermore is probably the best, which is really, really sad. santa clara looks like it was built and designed by a sidewalk contractor with no skatepark experience whatsoever. if SF ever gets that golden gate park skatepark, i pray that the grindline/dreamland teams get the nod again.
Larry
true, but god those bowls are sucky. the little spines in the middle are ok, and the little bench and 3 stair are ok.
Brent
I actually kind of like santa clara because of how shitty it is. The way the banks go directly to the flat with no transition whatsoever makes me feel like I’m skating a good street spot. That park would be awesome if it was a parking lot.
Larry
ive never been to dublin but santa clara’s got to get the biggest pile of poop award.

Hands down, I would say Dublin is the worst Bay Area park. So many lumps and kinks. It’s just dangerous.

I skated Campbell once about 3 years ago. That 6 ft metal mini is fun but everything else there is pitiful. Benicia is another park in the Bay Area that’s not dawn until dusk. That place is CAD design run amuck and a waste of concrete. Heading to Potrero Hill around 6 or 7 tonight, come out if you can make it.
Larry
brent, i dont think you can call campbell a skatepark, more of a tennis court with makeshift crap. that 6 footer is fun but im not the biggest fan of metal ramps.
Brent
I meant dawn to dusk… but that movie with Cheech and Quentin is pretty sweet.
Brent
Campbell’s also not open dusk to dawn. Not that it matters, as it’s the third worst skatepark in the history of skateparks that I’ve skated, but it’s right down the street from my place, so I’d skate that 6 footer every once in awhile if it was ever open when I’m driving by.

thanks larry!

sure seacliff, if you ever need to hit me up: lpescatore@sbcglobal.net

I forgot about how slippery Plato was! I hit my head twice in one session doing a grind revert and over-rotating because it was so slick. I’d like to skate my friend’s mini too! He’s been working construction 7 days a week for the past 4 months so he is never at home. It’s only 8 ft wide but is super solid and has huge coping. As far as minis go, you can’t beat the one at the Log Shop in Pacifica. I usually take 101 to Tully because I don’t really know that area too well. Thanks for the alternate route.
Larry
yeah seacliff youre spot on about the parks around here…id love to skate your friends mini ramp! plato i think sucks, too slippery. stonegates all right. if you dont like the tully and story road traffic, take 101 to 680 to capitol expwy (right) and left at cunningham, park in one of those side neighborhoods and go through the gate. of course during commute hrs capitol expwy sucks, but on saturdays its no prob. i live near alum rock and white so i just take white. i happen to like svale though, it flows nicely. sf looks like the shizz though.

I know what you mean about the Lake Cunningham park being in the worst spot possible. I’m not stoked on driving down “Ho Chi Minh Trail” aka Tully Road to get there either. It’s always mobbed. The routine now is to skate San Jose Saturday morning, SF Sunday morning and a few days a week after work too. I still go to Cunningham because most of my friends I skate with are in San Jose and I still like the park despite all its faults. I heard the Progress Park is looking good but with Wormhout you ever know about concrete work. Stonegate is fun despite not looking like much. Plato Arroyo is alright but the flow area suffers from too many obstacles stuck in such a small space. I really can’t say enough good things about the new SF park. It was worth the long wait.

I skated Sunnyvale every Saturday & Sunday for at least 3 years and I’m completely sick of that place. It’s fun but the coping sucks and the biggest thing there is maybe 8 ft. Yeah, the Santa Clara park is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even skate it, I just went and looked at it because my friend lives around the corner. Skating his garage mini is a much better option.

and the new park in Progress off 17th and Santa Clara by downtown looks like it will be good

Lake Cunningham is also in an inaccessible spot in San Jose. You have to drive through the most congested streets to get there. Not a lot of people want to deal with that after work. And man, $5 now? and spectators have to pay, too? If I take my family it’s $21.
There are 3 and soon to be 4, maybe 5 (not sure of status of that other one), other neighborhood parks in San Jose that are free. I like Stonegate and Plato Arroyo, a lot. Great Oaks is weak, though.
And on a positive note, I love the new SF park. Those NW guys just know how to make a great park. The transitions just toss you up or over the coping.
Larry
sea cliff, sunnyvales open usually at dawn but sometimes you have to jump the fence. santa clara is a joke park. cuntingham is never crowded because the kids have to wear pads–the only people that go regularly seem to be cab’s army of skull bowlers on wednesdays. the great white north seems to be so far superior. i hope to make it to sf soon.
skatebroke
maybe the next park we get will be a burnside replica?!

Basically, every park in the Bay Area is dawn ’til dusk except for Santa Cruz (9 a.m. ’til dusk) and Lake Cunningham (11 a.m. ’til dusk weekdays, Saturday 9am ’til dusk, Sunday noon ’til dusk). I heard starting next week that they will change the week day hours to 9 a.m. It doesn’t matter when you go to that park, it’s never crowded ever. The cost plus all the rules drive people away. I’m so thankful Grindline & Dreamland did such a great job on the new SF park.
Kilwag
The best/worst is when they are only open when the local school is not in session.
JF
I so hate it when parks don’t open early in the morning…best time to skate. I visited a few parks in CA,NM and now in MASS that only open from like 1 to 5 during the week…WTF? that’s the worst time to skate, it’s like 100 degrees outside. They should be closed from noon to 5.
sea cliff vert ramp
The new San Francisco park is everything a skatepark should be. I love it. There’s still talk of building another SF skatepark in Golden Gate Park. I doubt that will ever happen though. San Jose blew it on so many levels with their park it’s unbelievable. $4.75 million and still no lights? The week day hours don’t start until 11 a.m. when it’s already blazing hot. On the weekends it doesn’t open until 9 on Saturday and then, on Sunday it’s BMX session from 9 a.m. until noon. That’s the biggest slap in the face of all.
Grover, thanks for the offer of the free ‘poon and close parking. Mighty neighborly of you! I hope to make it up there this fall.
Larry
that sounds like a plan grover!
Kilwag
Is your wife already booked that night GVK?
cold ones
Yeah, SF park is freaking awesome.
GVK.
I can not believe how-F- california is paying to park that state or county is screwed up. I am glad you guys do not pay for that shit. Come on up and ride here I will take you to the park and park my car 5 yds from the park for free and let you skate for free and let you have sex with kilwags wife for free.
Larry
thats what i do too, park in the neighborhood. however 5 dollars is alot to shell out, unless maybe you bring a lunch and make a day of it.
sea cliff vert ramp
Yep, forgot about the parking fee. I always park outside on Cunningham Road and skate for 2 minutes. After driving all the way from SF, I’m not paying to park.
Larry
sea cliff, not to mention the daily fee at sj is now FIVE bucks plus 6 to park. Bollocks!
sea cliff vert ramp
The new SF is a lot of fun but unfortunately only has one bowl. The concrete work & coping in SF are far superior to San Jose too. I like the variety that San Jose has but dealing with all the lame rules and the hours is a hassle.
Larry
looks like a much better park than lake cunningham…once again sf beats sj.

cooksies roots are with Alva. good pic
Rich
Thank the skate gods for park builders like Dreamland. That is a thing of beauty.
Prickly Pete
Cooksie’s not getting flow from LA Gear anymore?
