Airspeed concrete crew at Gabriel Park

Friday T&A on S&A: ERA Now!

And the winner for the highest glass ceiling on a skatepark builder’s concrete team has got to go to Airspeed. This is a detail of one of their pictures of recent progress at the Gabriel Park site. There’s probably a woman on another concrete crew out there somewhere else, but three? Yes, I know there are women involved with skatepark building companies in other positions, I’m talking about the work crews specifically. Airspeed is cranking on Gabriel Park. Check it out. Update: EPM has some new construction shots.

– Thanks to Sonny for the tip.

yo momma who are you? Why dont you use your real name when you talk shit.

  • yo momma

    you are hardcore

  • A

Dude, you’re so hard core! Maybe even Extreme!™

    Stop mumbling.

  • yo momma

yeah, i just got my drivers license and drove down to Lincoln City and skated the most amazing, exhillerating, incredibly fast, wonderfully challenging, snake run. Most of you guys didn’t even show up to the meetings so piss off and the ones who did shot down the the double funnel idea. I’M SORRY IF I WANT TO SKATE SOMETHING THAT SCARES ME. TIGARD HAS THAT EFFECT, KLAMATH FALLS, HAILY, BUHL, NEWBERG, Reedsport.
I’ll just have to try harder at Gabriel, don’t PHUCK with YO Momma.

  • “You might as well complain about the lack of bowls at Ed Benedict.”

    What?! Why wasn’t I informed?

  • Thank-you… Thank-you… Id like to thank all the creative skate park builders of the Pacific North West. You provided endless inspiration.

    WINNER: Greg N!

  • Seems like the only person that failed and geeked it is ‘Yo Mamma’. You failed to get what you want. Its not an easy thing. Sometimes it takes more persuasion than one person has… sometimes it takes doing it yourself. Your failure may be a really bad feeling, but don’t break down. Keep your dreams alive! Good luck. My short term advice is to look forward to that day of getting your drivers license… Oregon has some of the best skate parks in the world, each with its own unique terrain and challenges. Enjoy!

  • Yo Momma, I’m sure that Geth will chime in here at some point, but I feel the need to remind you that his early proposed designs had a funnel-like feature, and were quite a bit more “creative” than it ended up. Seemed to me like he was up for it, and that it was toned down for various reasons. If you’re not happy, it doesn’t seem fair to blame Geth. He’s working within a relatively fixed brief. Even so, to look at the photos and not see “really fun” is beyond me… To each his own.

“Gabriel and Airspeed gets a chance to do something EPIC and they just fizzle out.”

Where was the chance for something you call “Epic?” The decisions as to whether there would be a skatepark, where it would be built, who would design it, who would build it, and what the design would be were all political decisions subject to many constraints and forces.

If you want an “EPIC” park exactly to your personal specification then get rich and build one your own damn self. And, oh yeah, stop being a whiny little bitch while you’re at it.

Gabriel Park will be fun when it’s finished. It might not be what everyone wants, but it will be a nice addition to the skateboarding landscape in Portland. A little variety never hurts. You might as well complain about the lack of bowls at Ed Benedict.

See: last track on “Let it Bleed”

  • yo momma

Whatever combat, and shawn. IT’S BULLSHIT, when you go to these design meetings and try to give Geth ideas and it just ends up with what GETH already wanted to build. That can be said about other awesome skatepark builders but the HUGE difference is the greatest skatepark builder gives you something different, challenging, and fun for many years to come.
It’s just lame when you see what’s being built around Gabriel and Airspeed gets a chance to do something EPIC and they just fizzle out.
To think this is the same company that built Reedsport’s awesome and amazing funnel tunnel.

  • Shawn, EC, don’t turn one crybaby into a bunch. The vast majority of us here appreciate what we have, what’s on the way, and who made it happen. I can’t think of too many things better than a day spent hitting Beaverton to warm up, then Tigard, Holly, and Gabriel, finishing at the Lucky Lab. Timing slides on the slug to match perfectly with tennis players’ serves could prove entertaining sport as well.

“What a bunch of crybabies and spoiled fucking brats”

    You got that right…

  • What a bunch of crybabies and spoiled fucking brats, people would kill for this park in other places.

  • yo momma

“Armchair” I can see armchair like rollers and recliner type waterfalls.

  • Hey if you armchair athletes don’t want it, ship it up here to Seattle, we’ll take it.

  • yo momma

yes thanks Airspeed, but I don’t think I get it. I am in the wrong. We should have a Orange pump bump, or a tomato bump or maybe a cucumber maybe a jalapeno habanero, serano, anahiem, fruit and vegetable characteristics in the next park, call it “Fruit park”

  • hey
are you guys talking about something made out of concrete that’s got transitions and hips and bumps and lips and stuff? and it’s free to skate? That sounds really fun.
    Thanks Airspeed!
    Thanks SfPS!
    Thanks Oregon!

  • I do not remember anyone advocating for big and gnarly, well, besides me. I could easily be mistaken. I just remember nobody liked the funnel. The work on the park looks real good to me although I do have misgivings about how small that tractor seat is. I was hoping it would be like pool shallow end. The park will probably be fun to ride.

  • i think geth is fucking all the females.thats why it is a piece of poop. And kid friendly?? Send the kids to Glenhaven with all the other kooks….

  • Don’t diss the banana slug.

  • yo momma

    Multiple times…

  • I think there was a lot of desire to make the Gabriel park kid friendly. Geth was ready to make it gnarly but that’s not what the people wanted. Did you voice your opinion at any of the meetings YM?

  • yo momma

Everytime I drive by Gabriel now, I think “what a phucking disapointment” WE give these guy and girls a chance and they just geek it. Lincoln City’s New addition is better than Gabriel. What a crock of shit! God damn Airspeed! You crooks, take our money and build a TURD that’s 9′ deep and what the FUCK is it with a TWO Foot tractor seat=GAY.
Did they build it for the GIRLS who work on the crew? GETH, can’t you get it? Make it big or go home.

  • enemy combatant

Every time I drive by Gabriel the girls are wearing hardhats!

  • “Airspeed will soon pour the first skateable Banana Slug.”

    Hell yes.
