Dynamic Dudes

I tried to stoke House Of Neil to write this one, since it falls in his area of expertise, but he’s not typing another word until he gets eBay Watch stickers and T-shirts. In the late 80’s and early 90’s there was a group of tag team wrestlers called the Dynamic Dudes. The Dynamic Dudes wore a lot of neon, made the hang loose hand sign and carried skateboards as props. Progressive Boink voted them the 9th Gayest Tag Team in their top 20 Gayest. I don’t think PB was taking into account the Lucha Libra Exoticos. Of the two guys in the team, the only one anyone seems to care about anymore is Shane Douglas. We’ve got a few pics as well as an incredibly blurry video of the Dynamic Dudes picking out skateboards at a skateshop after the jump.

Dynamic Dudes “skateboarding” wrestlers from WCW.

I can’t find many pictures of this team online, let alone pictures where they are carrying skateboards. If you have any, point me to them or send in a large scan.

This video shows footage of the Dynamic Dudes at a skate shop, but the quality on YouTube is horrible. It was probably digitized from a third generation VHS dub to begin with. When you think you see fottage repeating you might as well stop watching. The short video is a loop until the song ends. Again, If you have the original footage, I’d love to get a copy.

As long as we’re doing wrestling and skateboarding, here’s a video of Mike V getting all aggro.

Yes that is Shane “the franchise” Douglas. The other guy is Johnny Ace, or John Laurinaitis. He never amounted to much in the ring, in fact his brother is actually much more famous: Road Warrior Animal. John is now a really big deal in the WWE. He’s Senior Vice President of Talent Relations.

The Dynamic Dudes were in the NWA, never in the WWF.

  5. They were in the NWA with Easy E and Ice Cube? That’s funny I could swear one of those guys is Per Welinder.

  6. The other wrestler in that team is John Laurenitis aka Johnny Ace. Brother of Road Warrior Animal and current Head of Talent Relations for WWE. He most likely leaked half the photos, he’s got a sick sense of humor that way. The Dudes were a LOOOOOONNNGGG time ago but funny as hell to look back on. Thanks for the laugh.

I work with the other one. He only has one card left from his wrestling, but we make fun of him about it. In fact, I just sent him the picture, and I’m about to send it to some drivers. lol

It’s funny how so many people crack on Johnny Ace when he was the hottest American Commodity in Japan back in the late 90’s early 2000’s. The Dynamic Dudes where criticized because for some reason they are compared to The Rockers, but they are a whole different type of tag team. I was always a fan of the Dynamic Dudes and Johnny Ace was my favorite. Screw all the people who hate on him. Besides if it weren’t for Johnny there would be no Diamond Cutter, RKO, or Stone Cold Stunner which are all variations of his Ace Cutter, so show dome respect people where it’s due come on Dynamic Dudes 4 life.

  9. Ben is right on the money–Johnny Ace was a big deal in Japan circa late 1990s/early 2000 teaming with (among others) Kenta Kobashi and Stan Hansen. Funny thing is that Mick Foley has said that the use of skateboards as gimmicks (when neither new how to skateboard) did more than anything to kill the team with the fans. They did an angle where Jim Cornette agreed to ‘advise’ the Dudes but eventually turned on them and had the Midnight Express beat them down. Unfortunately by that point the fans hated the Dudes so much they cheered for the ‘heel’ Midnight Express and Cornette turning on them. Classic WCW move completely bungling the use of a pair of solid workers.
