Concussion adverts

Advertise like it’s 1989

Flipping through the first few pages of Concussion #37 makes it clear that Concussion is new Concrete Wave. Page 13 – Full page advert for Foundation re-issues, no big deal. Page 23 – full page Art and Steve Godoy advert for Bones Wheels. I don’t know what’s more shocking, the Godoys on a Powell brand or the Godoys in any advert. Where was the hype back when I needed it? Actually, I think they’ve always been on good terms, but they didn’t fit the squeaky clean image of Powell back in the day. Those are Factory 13 boards they are sporting. Then on page 26 there’s a full page Circle-A advert. Oh yeah, Full page OJ’s and and a full page Lester Kasai ad for S One Helmets too.

And I’m just kidding about that Concrete Wave comparison Davoud. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I want to give Shitty his props though. He was making big shaped decks long before the current wave of “old school”. Back in 2000 he was putting out the original Shitbird decks, and his wheels followed soon after. For awhile they were the only big wheels you could get if you didn’t want to buy 80s stick.

which website? The speedlab website? That hasn’t been updated in months, maybe years.

  • HECTIC-IN-SEATTLE

concussion zines are best when logged with the waters of putawh creek

Someone should tell their website then…

  • The old pink Godoy Speedlab wheels have been renamed.

  • Prickly Pete

Oh you’re right. Totally forgot about those ironic pink godoy wheels. Thanks for cutting through the subtext of this ad, Neil. Who hasn’t SHitbird Dave pissed off? Still like his wheels despite what Blackhart & the Godoys say.

  • houseofneil

you guys are missing the point. Who do you think they are flipping off, and why does the add say what it does? It’s a slap at shitbird. They had a falling out of some kind over the wheel, hence the advert.

  • yeah but the blackfartz arent endorsed by the doctor.

  • A

That’s funny, cause there is actually a Shitbird Godoy wheel.

  • Prickly Pete

If they only road Shitfires the ad could say, “Life’s short, ride shit!” or “Life’s too short to not ride shit!”

  • that godoy ad is in a couple other mags this month too, those powell stickers on their boards look like they were photoshopped in.
