  • The Emergen-C drink packets with Glucosamine and Condroitin have been helping me. You have to take them every day for about a month before it starts to work. My back knee started hurting about 15yrs ago (at 30). Its been better the last couple years.

  • JAKEANDANNOY

Goofy-footed, both knees, but yeah, right knee hurts/retianed water more.

  • colin walsh rules

    i see, shitty

  • I was making up that syndrome because its my trailing foot (leg) that has the sore knee. Sounds like there’s no correlation according to our scientific sample of three subjects.

Conohan, I skate regular and it’s the lead (left) knee that hates me. Aside from stiff-legging it for some insta-pain, pushing aroung too much (skating burnside for example) gives it some pressure-pain. I assume it’s because the bad leg is planted on my board the entire time with all my weight shifting on it. I have discovered that pushing Mongo releives the pain while gaining me mad style points.

what’s trailing foot syndrome…….? pushing mongo or sometin?

  • colin walsh rules

im goofy and its my front R knee, it also hurts all kinds after long rides w/ little or no leg room, i actually prefer to drive rather then be a passenger cause my knee is always moving nd doesnt get stiff… i was it the cab of a little truck coming back from boarding @ hoodoo, got out of the back about 2hrs later and collapsed on the ground cause my knee was SOO weak i couldnt stand on it for about 10-15 sec, wierdest experiece i have ever had. but yeah it sucked(s) im not a hippie i just like refer

  • Damien, goofy or regular? Colin? Just wondering if skater’s knee is a trailing foot syndrome.

  • damienhialation

My left knee’s a bit of a mess. I find that most of the pain/stifness is from swelling, usually after an accidental stiffleg or a long car ride. Ice and Ibuprofen usually makes the swelling/pain/numbness go down a bit, though I have to take a couple days off (yeah right) if it gets too bad. As far as Medical Reefer… You friggin hippies! 😉

Actually, funny story, then I’ll shut up. I had this one pair of Krew pants I bought because I hate baggy pants. But the style was too slim, it was even like this stretchy rocker pants/nuthugger material.
I was wearing them last summer and my knee was killing me. I did just what I advised which is slap a bunch of tiger balm on the knee. Then pulled the super tight pants back up and viola! 2 minutes later my knees sweating and on fire and the pants spread that shit all over my nuts and chode, I looked like such a fag with my hand constanty jammed down my tight pants while my friends were skating around me like, what are doing. I couldnt take my pants off in public and my car was like a mile away. I rolled around on the ground and just suffered. Thank God that was after I had my kids.

As for the knee, try a big slab of tiger balm or something if it kills. Bend and stretch your knees that morning before skating. Or snort up a shitload of coke, sure you might overdose and die but on the plus side you wont feel your knees, problem solved!

  • There’s some research that shows active people retain higher levels of bone mass/density. Eventhough I deal with a bum knee, I still find I feel better when I’m skating than not. The stoke is greater than the pain. 🙂

Glucose is only relevant in cases where you have muscular or arthritis problems, usually due to lack thereof.

I once read some article where it mentioned how when you wake up in the early morning or middle of the night and have some horrible leg cramp that usually makes you limp around franticly till it goes away. They say usually that happens because you did some drinking all day prior and even ties in w/dehydration.

It also said it happens to all active people, or inactive, drinkers, and non drinkers. It mentioned keeping gatrade by your bed or drinking a glass of water before passing out. The gatorade obviously has glucose and thats supposed to help. You make an interesting point Colin, Im almost 30 and have some pretty serious injuries (yes, knee) but we all sound like old farts when we complain. I smoke a bout a bowl too, and while I beleive it has medical benifits.

My reasons are purely recreational. I like to relax with the weed. I also usually bring a quart to the sessions, but Im kind of a loadie I guess.
Mellows my nerves especially at the parks where perils are bikes flying by and little kids on scooters slowly snaking runs and hiding at the bottom of bowls, hips, transfers, ect.

Weed is fine, a lil’ never hurt anyone. If you wake up a vegan, making your own “special” cream cheese in a tie die shirt and listening to phish, then its time to put it down.

  • colin walsh rules

how affective or non-affective is glucose?..

  • I’m in the same boat Colin. I wish I did know what to do about it. I think mine started hurting before there was such a thing as snowboarding. I remember blaming it on soccer when it started.

Now that I think about it it does help to skate switch. Im regular-foot and I can do little switch kickturns on my miniramp when my right knee hurts without pain. Hmmm.

  • colin walsh rules

well im only 22 and my knees (well right knee) sucks! i mainly blame snowboarding, but when i skate hard, or well for a longer time then usuall it hurts and it sucks, sometimes when i am walking around or getting up from sitting down for a while it kills! but marijuana seriosly helps, i smoke a bowl 1/2 way though a session and it makes it feel nice… i know PLG the vert guy smokes down heavy, anyone ever see the old On videos…? there is an interview w/ BOB burquist and he talks about how he has seen guys smoke bowl and pull tricks better and then seen people smoke and make it way worse, personally i like skating stoned, but not like comotose stoned…yeah just had to get that out there…anyone know any good ways to work out me knee to get it half way normal again?!?………

  • Skateboarders should support stem cell research.

  • A

I hear they are having success growing cartilage in a petri dish, but I suppose that will come too late and too expensive to help us.

  • I can feel that I will need surgery on my right knee sometime in the future. I tried to take glucosomine, but I broke out in a rash from it.

  • damienhialation

You can get by without cartilage. You know it’s over when you’re BONELESS!

  • welcome to the club….sucks.
