eBay Watch January 2008

eBay Watch: January 2008

So here we are again. Another month down, and more old decks to talk about. Just a quick reminder, you can click on the small images to enlarge them. Sometimes they show the top and bottom of the deck or some other detail that was cropped out for the sake of display in the article. Most times the enlarged versions are vertically oriented as well.

I would like to purchase the GULLWING PHOENIX H.P.G. IV truck.
    Any help?

  • houseofneil

wow, thanks. feb will be coming soon. Images are sized, now I’ve just got to write it.

House of Neil: this is my favorite thing on the internet. I absolutely love this column, and get downright antsy waiting for it to come out each month. Thanks for sharing your insights and knowledge with us–you have great taste, and a fine memory. Your monthly market surveys are perfect for those of us who are not vintage board collectors, but remember those boards from their day. Thanks.

  • cool rick, cool. alls i know is i wish i could do edgers like you do!

  • rick blackhart

LP quote: oh yeah whos the “pink scrunchie wearing fag” rick spoke of?

    ask jason jesse.

  • oh yeah whos the “pink scrunchie wearin fag” rick spoke of?

Warm and fuzzy? Does this mean group hugs at all further skate sessions?

Get back in your cube and start cranking out more comics.

  • You guys are getting warm fuzzy? I need to renegotiate.

You said that you didn’t understand the red/green/blue streaks on the godoy bros. deck… that’s Kryptonic’s logo colors.

True enough. Also, The Godoy’s said they had no input on that design. I like it actually, not a bad graphic at all, and easily the best of any of the 80’s Kryptonics era.

  • We get paid with “Warm Fuzzy” feelings Rick! There’s plenty to go around.

  • A

Rick – Sadly, none. Nobody gets paid as there is no income. Everyone that contributes is a friend, and does it for the creative outlet and or sheer boredom. Banner ads were all for trade or free and have been running long since their expiration date. I’m no salesman.

You can read the official Skate and Annoy financial report.

  • rick, most of us would like to know why you left thrasher.

  • Rick – that one article with some kid writing back in 85 about getting graphic touch-up pens was the most funny shit i’ve ever read before. In fact, I brought that up last week as some little snow-bruce was bitchin about people scratching the topside of his snowboard deck.

Would love to see you write again though. This would be a perfect place for your wit to boot.

  • sorry rick didnt mean to insult. i bought a set of grimeballs because i know grime.
i saw a pic of you doing an edger at the new sj park, very nice.
say hi to kevin thatcher for me! phuck felps!

  • rick blackhart

thanks guys. yeah its me. hey kilwag, how much dough are we talking about? and just for the record LP, shitfire wheels are not condoned or endorsed by me. they suck, and as far as I’m concerned, shitbird is a rippoff. you’d think he would give me my original signed tunnel board he has just to make up for it, but NO. pink scrunchie wearing fag.

  • cool, i like shitfire wheels. doc, you made me laugh growing up in thrasher…i wish they still had ask dr rick and chef boy am i hungry. plus bonnie blouin wrote some good shit. phelps was better on product patrol, now he is more like product troll.

  • houseofneil

yup it is the real Doc, and he’s a regular on S&B now. Has a new deck coming out on Pocket Pistols.

  • A

…bring back your advice column in thrasher

Better yet, bring it back… HERE! I can pay you exactly twice as much as our highest paid staffer. ( Quick, 2×0= )

  • A

    …its spelled BLACKHART.

Noted and fixed. Thanks. He got it right the previous months though! – K.ed

  • are you the real dr rick? if so, bring back your advice column in thrasher, you scum sucking pig. see you in san jose!

  • rick blackhart

hey neil, great show you got here. It tells me just what I want to know about e-bay without going there and slogging through it since most of it is garbage. thanks. and btw, its spelled BLACKHART.

  • “What for?”: For the killer T.S.O.L. soundtrack and Grisham park action!

  • A

I think I have a bootleg of the Suregrip video in a box somewhere. What for? I’ll never know.

  • anyone remember the Sure Grip “monger” board?

One of their 80’s complete set ups. Lots of hot pink and geometric shapes in the graphic…came out about the same time as the Sure Grip deck with a CA license plate as the graphic….anyone know the year?

  • Livmo I hear you, Variflex decks rule. Sure Grip does the same.

  • A great read again thanks! The first Craig graphic still rules to me, simply because it was the first. I would propose that it actually is a wise investment as the artist involved, Pushead, would insure a permanent market for this deck.

  • Thanks Neil.you do all the work and I would like 2 thank you.Look forward 2 it every month.great job bro.

  • JAKEANDANNOY

Lucero always had cool graphics. Member’ the spiderman logo, circa 88′? Pretty much the same color scheme and shape above.

  • Vato rat is hot for sure.

  • A

The rainbow leopard print? How did you know?

Vato Rat, but a lot of people hate that.

  • hey! hey!….I bet your favorite graphic is one of them gay Sims Leopard decks!!!

  • A

Wha? Get out. You’re just a Hawk fanboy. That graphic blows. What are you, Canadian or something?

  • I think the Hawk Claw is one of the coolest graphic ever. Underated graphic for sure.

  • My “Board of the Month” would have to be the Hirsch Variflex.

Correction for your article; The Hirsch model is actually Steve Hirsch, Mike’s older brother. Mike was sponsored by Variflex as well, but never had a pro model.
