Skate and Annoy: Daily

Yad Kennedy

(Rad) Yad Kennedy

Dave Tobin sent me a picture to tie in with the Israeli energy bar commercial that has skateboarding in it. It’s some very skateable architecture by David Resnick designed as a memorial for John F. Kennedy outside of Jerusalem, Israel. I had a hard time finding pictures of the “Jerusalem Kennedy Memorial” online, but if you type in “Yad Kennedy” you get better results. Must be hebrew. Still, there’s not a whole lot of information available on this site. The monument was built in 1966 with funds donated by Jewish communities in the USA. Would this be called street skating even though it has tranny?

Yad Kennedy – JFK Memorial in Jerusalem, Israel

I didn’t end up using the shot Dave sent me. The web site had some language that inferred using it in the context of Skate and Annoy would require payment, but I did find several other shots, and all the location pictures are essentially the same anyway. There are other shots of kids climbing on them (check out this kid’s totally un-awesome “New Wave” shirt), but I don’t think they’d take kindly to skating on them. The spot looks like the transitions are perfect, but the take off and landing are a little narrow. Transfers might be tricky.

This cool shot is from Eilam Gil’s photostream on Flickr. There’s no information, but that’s got to be soon after it opened.

Roni Abiri has this shot up on Flickr as well. From this angle it looks like a there’s a kink in the transition, but it’s probably just an optical illusion from what looks like two separate pours for the concrete.

And finally, we have a shot of what Yad Kennedy would look like if it was located somewhere in Oregon, courtesy of someone named Pes & Lev at the Jerusalem Photo Archive. Is it still a courtesy if you don’t ask for their permission?

I got pages and pages of pics of the place when I searched. None of them showed anyone skating it though.

  • Just did the image search, copied and pasted. Six pages of results, nothing that had anything to do with the spot above.

Do an image search for יד קנדי (just copy and paste it if you can’t type in Hebrew) for the best results. Luckily, unlike most spots in the US you do not get kicked out of this spot unless you are a complete jackass.

    Damn that is sick!
    Who’s gonna drop in?

  • Over the door. Better make it first try.

  • uhoh, what happens to the street vs. tranny debate when street IS tranny.

Have to start a CD thread.

  • Or wait, it’s a question of how many ribs can you ollie and still live to tell about it?

  • Get enough speed and it’s a pivot to fakie, that’s what it’s called!

Danny way at the end of a towline…banners…some
    x-treme…mostly Von Dueshe & Nixon…yes, plenty of
    x-treme media there…..
