eBay Watch: November 2007
Now this, this was a month. Lots of really cool decks came and went on eBay in November. Oh sure there was the usual array of Hawks and McGills etc, but I found some really good tack, some stuff that hardly ever comes up. Some months can feel like a real chore, but I’m excited to do it this month!
This month the column is brought to you by the sounds of the Hollywood Blondes and the refreshing taste of Bombardier ale. Good stuff. If you are ever in Chicago, stop by the Globe pub on Irving Park. Lots of great English beers and the food isn’t bad either.
Check out: eBay Watch for November 2007.
This is probably an old legacy Ebay Watch blog post. Some of the links may be broken or missing.

First off, how hard is it to take a picture of a board and get the whole thing in frame and in focus????? Apparently, it’s hard.
Lot’s of unusual offerings this month. That Danforth looks like it’s missing the black screen.
The G&S Doug Smith – Flying Tiger graphic has been copied several times, but this is the earliest one I’ve seen, save for some P41’s flying over China in 1940.
The Dressen Street Scene gets my vote for ugliest deck ever produced. I actually like the Ripstick better.
I’m surprised those Phillips decks don’t fetch more. Man that’s a lot of plastic. I can hear it rattling now.
The Bulldog / Kat Von D collaboration.. It looks like Wes covered 80% of the board and Kat barely did anything. Man. Humpston sure has the Midas touch though.
That Logan was overpriced even when it was new!
I thought Bod Boyle was the English Tony Hawk.
After he had that sick video part in wheels of fire (or was it streets on fire?) at the fallbrook ramp. best vert part ever.
no no no Bod Boyle was the English Ben Shroeder, Steve Douglas was the English Tom Groholski the only European equivalent would be Nicky Guerrero but he was/is to dam stylish to really be compared to Tony.
and as for the Jason Jesse remark if you dont know you never will.
kook–I assume you never saw Dossett skate. All the guys you mentioned moved to the USA, along with Danny Webster and Sean Goff, and are the most well known Brit skaters, but the Deathbox crew never came over here. Dossett was a super technical, great vert skater. Deathbox also had some great street skaters that never made it over here either, guys like Wurzel.
And as for Jason Jessee, I’m not buying it. The Godoys were a billion times more punk than Jason ever was or could be, yet they don’t have his status for some reason. There were plenty of others too. Jason’s acquired this mythical status, I guess because he’s a fuck up who doesn’t seem to give a rats ass, but after watching his movie I just felt sorry for him.
And duders: “best vert part ever?” Not even close. Not even in the ballpark.
WoW! Actually i did see Pete skate and he ripped but lip tricks remember that’s what those guys i mentioned were known for and Tony was an all around ruler of the ramp and i still say the Danish Nicky Guerrero is closer in type of tricks and i still say he had more style such is the subjective nature of judging skaters and as for jason jesse he is an icon like it or not i didnt make the rules…he had a movie made that falls into icon territory good or bad and i also saw him skate and he really really ripped so do the godoy brothers and radio birdman in vid part awesome but as for “a million time more punk” who cares, such is the indifferent world of dumb comparisons i was just making a comment not trying to bring down your set in stone history of skateboarding i was there too and have an opinion just cause you lurk ebay doesnt give you the right to deny me my on life which for the last 30 years has been skateboarding i mean c’mon “a million times more punk” if your such an expert riddle me this who was more punk, mark conahan or bill reese both relevant historical figures in the northwest skate scene both great skaters both people who could give a shit about who’s more punk cause when you start to care what other people think you take the life out of both “punk rock” and skateboarding cause in both you have to not be afraid to look like an ass in my humble opinion.
sorry you really got my blood up with your “rules” i really was just grasping at straws.
I hate punk rock. Am I still allowed to skate?
dude!!!! hating punk rock is SOOOOoooo…..
punk rock.
House of Neil is the English Kilwag. I am 20 times more New Wave than I was punk 20 years ago. Burn baby burn. Disco Inferno.
kookcentral lives in a straw house.
I agree with Neil, Jasson Jesse is 20 times more popular now (ha ha) then he ever was back in the day. He just seemed like one of those guys whose name you read but never actually saw many pics. As far as colorful personalities go, he certainly is entertaining, but the iconic 80’s skater.. not so much.
How come we never see any Johnee Kopp decks.
But I wouldn’t pick the Godoys either.
kook–you went off the deep end there! My “punk rock” comment was just trying to understand why Jason is so worshipped by so many old guys out there today. If it’s because he’s “punk rock” then there are others who are more so, so why him? If it’s because he was a good skater, then there were better skaters. That was my point. It wasn’t to get into a pissing match. Again, I’m just trying to understand why the a lot of the older crew hold him in cult hero status. Personally I think it’s the graphics and that’s about it for most people.
Anyway, it seems like the collector types are off of Jason and into Grosso now, so it’s a dead issue. Wait for the Grosso documentary in 3..2..1…
JKP–you are right about the JKopp decks. Very few go through ebay. I’ll try real hard to find one though!
Hey Neil – you were right – november was a great month for decks on eBay….but you left out so many good ones. There was a super rare danny way Plan B board. a 101 chris markovich redneck deck. A randy colvin velevet deck and nude deck. 92 lance conklin comic strip deck. and a super rare ron chatman world Ind deck. all of these boards never show up on ebay and i’m suprised they never ended up on your “features” page
I can’t think of a better description of “kook” than someone who hangs old skateboard decks on their living room wall.
I don’t understand hatred for collecting, especially if the collector is still skating. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with hanging art on your walls, so why not hang a skateboard? The old ones are essentially the same as silkscreened poster art.
Maybe it’s because just like punk rock music, skateboard graphics and T-shirt art have absolutely nothing to do with skating?
Skate-hoarding!
That would be true (EC) if everyone rode blanks. If it has nothing to do with skating then it also has nothing to do with being a kook. This is where we say “To each his own.”
houseofneil: the godoys are dipshits. jason jessee is also a dipshit, but you dont see the shit he did on vert anymore. and it has nothing to do with punk by the way. 8′ method airs to fakie? go watch some of his parts again and get back to me. if you dont think JJ was the vert ruler in his time then i would be inclined to say you dont ride much vert. the dude ruled in his time.
as for now, and his cult status, i have no clue because the guy hasnt stepped on a skateboard in years, now he is just a weirdo biker, worshipped by other kooks like that guy who did the documentary on him. fanboy out.
or i should say:
you dont see people doing the shit he did on vert anymore.
“as for now, and his cult status, i have no clue because the guy hasnt stepped on a skateboard in years, now he is just a weirdo biker, worshipped by other kooks like that guy who did the documentary on him.”
Not like I am some big fan, but JJ does skate still. He visited out here (CO) many times, because his girl was living here. I think he is just freaked by attention.
so enemy combatant, you have no interest in anything outside of skateboarding? You have no art on your walls, you don’t listen to music, and you don’t collect anything at all? Wow, you must be a very boring person. That’s a shame. You should get some other interests, seriously.
Duders, he obviously wasn’t the “vert ruler” in his time. He was a very good vert skater, but there was a ton of great vert skaters back then, and a lot were far more influential than Jason. Sorry. If you try to say that Jason was more influential than guys like Hawk, Cab, Hosoi, or even guys like Blender and Gator, then I think you’ll be in a minority of one.
Any why insult that Godoys? In what way are they dipshits? The times I’ve met them they’ve never acted like dipshits at all.
And as for your second comment that you don’t see guys riding very like that anymore, then I guess you stopped watching skate vids in the late 80s. Guys like Jake Brown in the last Blind vid are doing shit that Jason etc wouldn’t even have dreamed of in the 80s. Amazing, just amazing stuff.
“You should get some other interests, seriously.”
Thanks for your concern, but unprotected sex and straight whiskey round things out very nicely for me.
I am always intrigued as to where these “mint, undrilled” gems come from, and they are always the models most desired today; Z Woodys, DT era decks, etc. Nobody would have hoarded what were then considered “toys” in 1978 with foresight that they might be worth a fortune in 2008. I had a Shogo Airbeam, an Alva Tri logo, an 8″ Alva, and that crappy Logan plank…but used them all to the max. Who didn’t? That’s what they were for, right? How many 15 year old kids put a Flip or Birdhouse popsicle on the wall as an investment these days? Zero..they trash ’em and get another… Collecting is fine, but sometimes I think there’s a bit skullduggery going on here. Especially with the real early stuff with basic graphics which are easy to replicate.
Hey Neil, who are you ? ? ?
Where are you ? ? ?
and most of all, what do
even know about graphics
and suck ass horrid skateboard drawings
Not fucking much, that’s for sure…
Are you selling the SOS board still ? ? ?
I want it, cuz you have know idea what
you speak of. So eat a bag of dick, and
let me know about the fucking cluelessness
of this fucking wacked ass jive fucking thing
you run…
OlsON
Glad to see that you’re up on things. Congrats, you’re commenting on a post that’s almost 2 years old. Plus you obviously don’t get the concept of the site. Maybe you can have somebody that isn’t senile explain it to you.
Was that Steve Olson, the real one? I don’t believe he’d get so bent out of shape about such a minor comment on board graphics. Even he would realize that SOS board is kind of mediocre. I don’t think it’s him.
His bomb’s full of love baby- that ain’t him.
I think it is him. Why would anybody else do this on a post that’s 2 years old? BTW, I just counted. The April Baywatch was #75!
