Discovery Channel longboard

Discovery Channel discovers longboards

Apparently, the Discovery Channel did a short feature on the downhill longboard scene in Canada, more specifically, the Rayne Longboards team and operation. I tried to find out some information on the context of the piece (what show was it on?) but the web site was mum. But they do sell a pintail longboard for some reason. That and those twisty boards. They would also like to recommend a jumping skateboard, or a Flowboard alternative skateboard. Turns out they’ll sell you anything but an actual, regulation length skateboard. Sorry, I got distracted. Watch the video for Discovery Channel’s take on downhill, including some extended Coleman slide action in the rain. Cliff needs to work on that web site. – Oh yeah, thanks to Skategeezer for the tip.

Nice link Casey, I still think ass grabbing in my book is gay. I will say I don’t want any dude pushing my ass no matter what.
I still want to see the official record speed for downhillers.

  • Casey M.

Woah, I hadn’t seen this yet, thanks for putting that up Kiliwag.

“Canadians, how bout that dude who was grabbing the guys ass in the last clip

Stake 2 Live, Live 2 stake, stakeboarding is not a crime!(in eastern europe)

Stake and Destroy, and then Annoy.

  • JAKEANDANNOY

Regulation stakeboard size varies from Translyvania to Hungary. Translyvania says length should be 107 inches, Hungary says 91 inches, but as long as you charge them down a hill full speed into the undead, its all stakeboarding to me.

and what makes the distinguishment in surfing, our hobbies bastard mother, between a long board and not? and what about skatebaording’s bastard child, snowboarding, does it have longboards?

  • Ryan Heckler

did you know that most slolam boards are really longboard with the nose and tail cut off?

“Longboarders” in Philomath are involved with an ongoing argument as to the city’s no “skateboarding on sidewalks” law. They feel they are being unfairly penalized for using a skateboard as an alternative form of transportation around town, when the law was instituted to prohibit kids from “stuntriding” their boards around pedestrians. They are trying to get the city council to exclude longboards from the no skateboarding ordinance. And personally, any board with a wheel base longer than the distance between your feet while standing with your feet at shoulder width spread should qualify as a longboard…

    What about stakeboarding?
It’s this new thing in eastern europe where they fashion trucks and wheels on a vampire stake or any regulation stake used for impalement.

I’ve never seen a coherent definition of a “longboard” except from popsicle stick riding kick-flippers who think anything with a length greater than 30 inches or a width greater than 8 fits the bill. But since they invented the term (or more likely the Element “marketing” department) they can call it whatever they like. It’s all skateboarding to me.

  • Video stalled while I was trying to watch it. Right at this frame:

Subliminal message? Discovery Channel is trying to promote the insidious gay agenda.

Regulation skateboard – The longboarding community started it, not me. Somehow there are all these articles in papers across the country about students “longboarding” on campus, etc.. I never felt the need to distinguish what size/shape board I was riding… like “I’m going out fatboarding today,” or I think I’ll head out and mid-size board that pool today.”

So with the emphasis on longboarding vs skateboarding, I chose “regulation” and I knew someone would chime in about it. Shortboarding? Nah, that would imply something shorter than normal.

Me, I’m into 8.8″ wide 14.5″ wheelbase boarding.

One last comment and I’ll keep the rest to myself. Canadians, how bout that dude who was grabbing the guys ass in the last clip…gay.
Danger Bay is the biggest downhill event for longboarders, why is it always LANDY’S on the PODIUM, not rain.

  • Dick Cancer

The jumping board is Radical, I rode one. It is just way to HIGH. It feels like you are riding on top of a garbage can. It’s lame but, I do like the wheels. The wave “twisty board” caster wheel board, what the phuc ever, is lame. Who let’s people make and sell these things. Wal mart, k mart, big five, GI JOES (it will always be GI JOES) phucking JOES.
Landyatchz Longboards and longboards from Local Eastside skates are the real deal. Anything else is just a long skateboard.

Some nice flatspins half way through the vid. What’s a “regulation” skateboard? And just who does the regulating?
