Skate and Annoy: Daily

Dunedin is open

Dunedin Florida – Monty Nolder sighting

I thought we would get a lot more pictures from the Dunedin Florida skatepark opening, but so far all I have is a few from local Ed Womble, which includes a shot of Monty Nolder. You guys must have a poser’s scene down there, you don’t deserve a good skatepark! Haw haw! I kid! Check out the pictures after the jump.

Below: Bonus shot of Ed Womble from 1976 skating Sensation Basin in sensational argyle knee socks. That makes him 47 in the shot at the top. What magazine is this from?

    “ENJOY”

  • Yo Sloane, You need to get ahold of me. I lost your number.

  • Monty started skating at the Runway Skatepark in Miami. He, Robbie Weir, and I (Wayne) used to travel all over Florida going to contests and everyone who saw Monty was stoked by his go for anything and land it approach. We all knew he was someone special. If anyone has any contact info on Monty, I’d love to get it.

  • go to our myspace pics page to see more of the Dunedin Skate park

  • Most known as the Monty Grind. Bring back the days when we made up names for tricks. That was fun!

  • There are some photos on my webpage from the Dunedin Grand Opening….

Todd Webb is a good friend of mine, if anybody could point me in the right direction of contacting him, I would be psyched.

I’ve been calling them Nolder grinds since the late ’80s after I saw him demo in MI. Mike Smith never did ’em backside, and NOBODY does them like Monty…

  • A

Online Tourettes syndrome. I read “smith” but typed “disaster”. I fixed it.

  • I agree, trademark Smith all the way…

  • ’76? Naw. Earliest would be ’78 based on the Norcon pads, wide board, and Valdez-style handplant. Yes, I know I’m a geek. Dunedin looks like a very nice park. Those shots must have been from a pre-opening session, or they did the “soft opening” thing, like Vancouver.

  • monty has the best backside smith ever

  • That pic of Monty looks more like he is doing one of his trademark backside smiths. Nice pics Ed.

  • does Monty still do those Christ airs or was that only when he was on Hosoi?
