Trifecta overkill day three: Battle Ground (WA?)

Trifecta overkill day three: Battle Ground (WA?)

What? You didn’t know that Battle Ground, Washington is located in Oregon? Well don’t tell anyone. Yes, the pro event got rained out and moved to Tobin’s bowl, but no, it’s not covered in this feature. It’s coming Monday. Until then you can check out the Women’s and Master’s event coverage with a little bit of the warmups for the locals and pros. That’s Jesse Nelson entertaining the crowd during the rain delay. Thanks to Shawn Reinert for the extra photos that don’t match the color balance or exposures of mine in the slightest. What can I say, I just want to make Jim Gray happy.

  • Tobins was rad ! Lots of energy, skating was gnarly. Thanks to Dave Tobin and family for last minute save! The locals indeed ripped the place apart.Benji(new LOc)screech,Donavan,Will, reeves ,Turgeson, and more keepin it alive in the backyard!Morgan Burgess fit into that pit perfectly, and it showed!Rune was killing it but not till the last few minute of the jam as he was still getting the place dialed in,was my take, the guy is so adaptable!Backlip atround and over rock coping was sick!Taylor Bingaman was teckgnar as usual switch fsa and swtfsgrvts, nollie oops, ect.Donavans Wall bonk capped the event well.Vince Devalle speed and style! Later!

  • how about some pictures from tobins, huh?

  • north shore

actually, the north shore bowl jam was a backyard pro contest. but, tobins was hott!

  • I understand what your saying but the arrogance is still tough to swallow here in the NW.

Yeah that 200 bucks is down 300 bucks from last year. I hear next year they’ll do a product toss for first and second place.

Hass, I hear you, I used to get really bent out of shape about that too, but I’ve come to a realization. Yeah, it’s their party, so we play by their rules. I suppose if it was important enough to anyone, they would be entered in more World Cup events beside the Trifecta, and would eventually get the same preferential treatment. It is just a skateboard contest after all, and a $200 first place purse isn’t going to pay many bills. The regulars keep it going from location to location, it probably helps them with their sponsors and what not. At the end of the weekend it’s mostly just cool to see all the ripping that took place, a couple of big name pros and heros, legends and assorted nefarious characters that come with the tour.

  • That comment duncan made about grover sums up my problem with the trifecta. “how could grover…?” Because he was skating better than the other old guys that were invited to the contest. Local talent doesn’t get the respect it deserves.

Take the mega-finals at LC for example. Jimmy the Greek was automatically advanced due to prior contests. During the finals he didn’t land anything that would have placed him in the top 30. However just riding in the finals gave him a default 14th place.

  • Um, cool “action figure” pic there Kilwag. 🙂

Chris Strople was there, yes. I met him but couldn’t remember what he looked like, I was distracted… So yeah, that’s probably him.

  • Liversnaps

Nice crop of pics. Is that Chris Strople standing next to Innouye in the Schneer Ho-Ho pic?
The nameless kid doing the frontside smith is Morris Kyle.
