It would also help to raise the average for auto makers to nothing less than 29mpg averall average for cars. i remember clearly paying $.82 for a gallon in 1998 for at least a couple of weeks, today’s price is more than triple that easy.

Average price of gas in the Summer of 1999 was $1.17 based on this report: Gas Report. We paid over $3.10 for a gallon of gas this weekend. That’s pretty close to 3x.
Rich told me that and had some specific numbers. I just searched for History of gas prices and looked at 4 different charts that all put it at more like double. One guy shows an adjustment for inflation that shows the price of gas today at about 160% of the 2000 price.
Last time gas was $1 a gallon on a national average was about 1986. Ronald Reagan was president. Current climb started in about 2002.
