Novelty Check vs. Reality Check
Lost in all the hubbub of the opening of the park is the fact that there is a lot of work to do if we want to see the rest of those 19 parks built, or if we want to see a roof and lights over Pier Park. Skaters for Portland Skateparks has been carrying a cross on your behalf for five years now. The opening of the new Pier Park hasn’t stopped them from giving even more as seen in this novelty check symbolizing a very real donation of another $1000 by SPS to Portland Parks.
Here’s the lineup of dignitaries. Left to right: Sage Bolyard and offspring, Mark Conahan and Sarah Burgess from SPS, Robin Plance who was president of the St. Johns Neighborhood Association during most of the Pier Park process, and city commissioners Sam Adams and Dan Saltzman. Tom Miller, aide to Sam Adams and SPS founder would have been up there too if he weren’t out of town at a wedding that day. Bummer. Click the pic to enlarge.
Two guys who also deserve a big hand is Sonny Robertson from SPS and Rod Wojtanik from Portland Parks.
And here’s another reminder to do your bit to help out.
That thousand bucks is supposed to help pay for Pier Skatepark maintenance. I forgot to present the big check at the opening but we did give them the real check already.
