Black Market Clash?
Ahhh… Errr… Hmmmm… This isn’t really a new item but it’s just starting to be publicized more. Man, I love the Clash, and you should too. I don’t know where I stand on these new Clash shoes from Globe. Regardless of how you feel about hearing Clash songs in adverts from Levis and Jaguar, they have a right to earn a living and provide for their families. Money can’t be a motivating factor when they are limited to 250 pairs and selling at prices comparable to other Globe offerings, and there’s no mention of any money going to charity or anything, such as the Strummerville Foundation.
Globe is quoted on some sites as saying the surviving members of the Clash approached them. Maybe Paul Simonon just wanted some cool shoes. There’s not much info about them anywhere, other than that they exist. Surprisingly, there is no official Clash web resource other than the Sony Music operated theclashonline.com. These shoes look cool enough at one point in my life I would have been hard pressed not to buy them. I’m not so sure now. Who am I kidding? If I’m in a shop and I see them and I need shoes… Below is a an advert that ppeared in the April 2006 issue of industry rag Transworld Business. Check out Johnny Green’s A Riot Of Our Own for a highly enjoyable inside look at life on the road with the Clash from an insider’s point of view.
I can’t believe that was the best they could do. The Clash made extensive use of logos, symbols etc, and had a great grephic design aesthetic. These shows are plain dull. Crap.
