Drive by ramp spotting

In this installment of drive by camera phone shots, what looks like the beginnings of a miniramp being constructed in a driveway. Turns out it was for a Nike photo shoot on nearby Sauvie Island. Not a miniramp, but some sort of run up to quarter pipe with a gap. As it was a few blocks from my house and in the front yard on busy street, I had to pull over and ask what was up. The guy building seemed a little weirded out by my enthusiasm. Sure is a lot going on skateboarding wise here in and around Portland. I was just thinking about that while reading Neil’s ebay watch. Two things that came to mind when he mentioned a Mark Partain – He lives in Hood River, and Julien Stranger – He was at MC’s bowl on Saturday. Now that I think about it, Chad Vogt has a model on Portland’s M&M Skateboards too.

  1. you mean M&M

    1. Yes, I did. I had screen printing on the brain.

  2. “weirded out by” your enthusiasm… clearly he has no clue. You’re building a ramp for a photo shoot involving skateboarding. So someone at Nike thinks that skating is a big deal, and you’re surprised by enthusiasm for it? Please try to pay attention. (Or were you totally playing the part of the annoying 6 year old at the park?)

since it’s not “made to skate”, it’s just for a photo shoot and headed to the landfill, it seems rather unprofessional and inconsiderate to make this ramp in the front yard in a residential neighborhood. look how they have all the materials practically in the front yard of the neighbors house. TRASHY! Nike really should have had this built at their facility.

he was freaked out because he knows nothing about skateboarding.Just another pawn for Nike and their global domination.

  5. NAh, those guys were skaters, Thrasher hats and all. I practically leapt out of the car.

  6. I’m sure it was Pat that was weirded out. He’s a bit socially awkward. He also owns Coda Skateboards. More Portland skateboarding.

Looks like this must have been from that photo shoot! Chet Childress, river in the back, bales of hay on fire… gotta be Sauvie Island, and gotta be for the Nike photo shoot.
