This is one I can really relate to. This history of Skate and Annoy is littered with the carcasses of missed self-imposed deadlines and delays due to “wanting to get things right.” Issue #10 of Pure Fun<\/em> is the 22 Year Anniversary blow out. It’s almost 120 pages thick, printed on a nice almost semi gloss paper.<\/p>\n

The content is a mix of old layouts and reprints and dated items that never got published with a healthy dose of commentary and recollections of the process of putting out those old issues.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Nine issues in 11 months between 1990 and 1991. Pretty impressive.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Check out this spread on the humble beginnings of Camp Woodward circa 1989 and compare to the state<\/a> of Woodward today.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The gatefold is a nice touch.<\/p>\n

The back cover features a spread of local law enforcement with a cache of seized weapons. The more recent caption reads “Lockport Detective Rick Podges takes the time out of his busy day to pose with skateboards he stole from children.”<\/em> The original newspaper articles are reprinted inside.<\/p>\n

So you’re thinking the Lockport, New York skate scene from 20 plus years ago isn’t exactly riveting, and you may be right to an extent, but there’s more to it than that. This will appeal to you if you skated in that era or put out your own zine in almost any era. The paper quality is good and the photos are reproduced quite well considering the technology used for the originals. Check out the second picture in this review to see what they had to work with. It’s obviously a labor of love, and Pure Fun<\/em> on top of that.<\/p>\n
