So there’s a line of toys looking to compete with the Tech Deck Dudes series. It’s called Wild Grinders. They’ve been out for a while, but when they first came out they weren’t pushing the Rob Dyrdek affiliation. That’s right, this appears to be owned or at least fronted by Rob Dyrdek. You’ve got to admire his thinking here, an extension of the Street League philosophy. He’s recognized an are where someone is making marketing skateboarding and injected an actual skateboarder into the organization by starting it himself. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. There’s a WIld Grinders TV commercial running that I’ve been meaning to get online, but instead I’ll spotlight this strange marketing agreement with MovieTickets.com. I’m not sure how many kids are going to buy movie tickets online. Someone must think they are going to, because there is a Wild Grinders spot for MovieTickets.com that is playing in theaters across the country. It’s even going to be in 3D when shown with 3D features. You can watch it after the jump, but be forewarned, On the web site they have the effrontery to make you sit through a completely untargeted commercial before they let you watch…

I asked my wife if she knew about some shi shi company named Hermes and she had no idea what I was talking about, but that was because I was pronouncing it like “her-mees” instead of the proper French pronunciation, something more akin to “err-mez.” These guys sell insanely ridiculously priced accoutrements. It looks like they hired the best fingerboard video director Alexis Milant to produce a segment for their web site. Alexis is the guy who does the Opus series of videos that we’ve featured before. The first is From a band called the Explosion who has the msfortune of being signed to Capitol Records, a company that still just doesn’t fucking get it. For some reason they feel like it’s in the best interest of the band to not allow embedding. Good luck with that one boys, maybe you’ll be one of the few that makes it. The Telegraph (UK) “reports” that the new Maverick Meerkats calendar is available. I hate it when web sites try to protect their scans (of other people’s images) with a bunch of overlayed divs designed to keep you from downloading the image. Come back here in a year and I’ll probably be doing the same thing. Isn’t there a there a Cure album called Meerkats? I like that little raccoon/weasel doing the rock and roll. This is a recent postcard my son got from his grandmother. By the looks of that Cooper style hockey helmet that Mickey Mouse is wearing it could have been from the 70’s but Donald is sporting a bicycle-style helmet and then there is the web address printed on the back. Somebody call the Department of Child Services, Donald’s nephews aren’t wearing helmets! Mickey is rockin’ som e of those new kingpin-less trucks. In Bizarro World there’s some sort of Californian American anti-defimation league that is upset by the stereotype this postcard perpetuates.

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament fully funded a small skatepark in his childhood home town of Big Sandy, Montana. His heart’s even bigger than his wallet. 40k is a lot to spend just to have a place to skate when you visit your p’s. Die Skateboard-Welle war schon eine Weile in Deutschland angekommen, als man dem Thema einen deutschen Song gab. In the 70’s there was a German teeny bopper who had some sort of hit song called Skateboard, Uh ah ah. At some point recently he tried to mount a comeback which involved rereleasing the song with new, updated mixes. There’s not much info out there that’s easy to find on this Benny character.
