Which is the Real IKS Bearing
WHICH IS THE REAL IKS BEARING?
Bearing (A) photographed and diagramed above is what everyone calls a metal shielded bearing (608-ZZ). The advantage of this bearing is that your initial kick-off is faster with less drag, also the bearing lets your wheels spin longer and more freely.
Bearing (B) is a sealed bearing (608-2RS) with two “Buna N contact seals” for which IKS is famous. True, it’s harder to kick-off, but once you’re going, there is no real difference in ride as the heat build up creates a sweat which the seal rides on.
The life expectancy of a shielded bearing is considerably less than that of a sealed bearing. The reason for this is that the shielded bearing was designed to work in an absolute dust free environment, whereas the sealed bearing was designed to work in a dusty environment. Which of the above do you use? How long would you like to skate on your bearings without the cost of replacing them? The answer is obvious.
By the way, both bearings pictured above are IKS BEARINGS. Why do we only sell the sealed to you? Because we care for your safety and your pocketbook. So, next time, make sure you ask for the best . . ask for IKS!
