Skate and Annoy Features

eBay Watch: September – October 2001

Another busy 2 months of skateboard madness on eBay. Prices keep going up. I’d really like to know if people are buying these decks to display, or if anybody actually rides any of these things!

70’s

Let’s start with the old stuff first. This Alva deck went for $306. It’s a simple but classic deck.

Another 70s Alva went off, but this one fetched far less because of its condition. It went off for $192. The grip tape job is great, but the stickers kill it on the bottom. Kids, I know it’s tempting to go crazy with the stickers, but they ruin the lines of a deck.

This cracked Dogtown Shogo Kubo went for $371, which is pretty good considering the tail is almost cracked off!

The biggest price paid for a 70s deck was the $973 paid for this Dogtown Jim Muir Triplane With a lot of Dogtowns of this vintage, the interesting graphics were on the top of the deck, covered with clear grip tape.

80’s

Moving onto the 80s, this early 80s Santa Cruz Duane Peters went for $250. It’s in superb condition.

Similarly, this early 80s Z-Skates George Wilson went for $256. You don’t see decks like this much at all: I thought it would have fetched more. It’s in pristine condition.

This plain old Santa Cruz Street Skate went for an amazing $71. It’s plain and beat up, but was the first real skateboard I ever owned, so I had to include it! I thought about bidding on it, but it’s not worth $70 to me!

A deck I always wanted (for the Sex Pistols inspired graphics) was the Santa Cruz Spidey from the late 80s. This one was too expensive for my blood at $157.

You don’t see freestyle decks that often, but this Santa Cruz Ray Meyer fetched a large $281. The graphics are nice, and I’ve never seen it before, so it must be pretty rare.

I’ll never understand it, but Roskopp decks continue to fetch large prices. I never rated him as a skater, and I thought his graphics sucked. I guess collectors love his stuff though. This is his 2nd pro graphic, and it fetched an amazing $264.

This Dogtown Micke Alba is rare, and the price showed it: $255.

Natas

And now for more unreal Natas prices. Natas must be a real hit with collectors, because any of his decks fetch big bucks. Used or mint, it doesn’t matter. This mint “kitten” graphic deck fetched $415, even though it was his fifth pro graphic.

This really beat up second model Natas fetched $131.

While this beat-up Natas first pro graphic fetched an unreal $261! I had this deck, and mine might have been less beat-up than this one. Looking at the uneven wear on the tail, this actually might be mine!!

Miscellaneous

Zorlac decks always fetch big money, and it was no surprise that this vintage used Gibson fetched over $200.

Similarly, Powell stuff always goes for top dollar. This Hawk is a case in point. It went for $240. Anything by Cab, Mountain, McGill or Hawk that is mint will always command in excess of $200.

And now for the 2 real big surprises of September, at least for me. The first is this Dogtown Dressen. It isn’t that old, and yet it fetched an amazing $517!

That doesn’t take the biscuit though, and that is a pun. I said before that Zorlac decks always demand top dollar. Well this one even surprised me. This 1983 Zorlac Big Boys deck reached a ridiculous $1,698! I guess somebody really wanted this one. One of the band members perhaps?

Here are a few examples of non-decks fetching top dollar. These Dogtown Rock and Rollers are wheels from the 70s. They went for a respectable $285.

Clothing also sells high. This Powell CrossBones sweatshirt went for $133.

While this Powell t-shirt fetched an insane $99! It doesn’t even feature a pro skater or deck graphics!

Last but not least, this Skateboarder photo annual was auctioned off for $56. I’d like it too, but not for that kind of money!

Well, that’s it for this month. See ya next time.
