Skate and Annoy Features

eBay Watch: November/December 2004

Another mediocre period. Seems like everybody was saving up for Xmas or something. Only 1 deck broke the $1000 barrier, but we did get some stuff that you don’t see too often.

Powell

First up we have this very clean Steve Caballero 2nd graphic snubnose complete. Shit, the deck looks it was bought yesterday! Nice bright pink paint too. Sweet complete. $677 seems cheap to me for a board of this vintage.

Ahh yes, the Lance Mountain Future primitive. Two of these went off last time, one for $305 and another for $405. This was the only one this time, and sure enough, the price had increased. How does $527 grab ya?Description 2

Mike McGill. Underrated innovator or styleless goon? Your call. One thing is for sure, this is his second graphic. Dig that non existent nose and bad paintjob. $305.

Now this is a strange one. Yes, I’ve seen plenty of old Steadhams before, even the stinger shape like this one. However, I’d never seen one that just said Steadham on it before instead of Steve Steadham. Either very very rare, or very very bootlegged. The buyer chose the former, because they paid $1,371 for it.

Santa Cruz

Grabke’s have been hot recently. This is the rarest and most desirable Grabke: the mini version of his 2nd graphic. This is the finest specimen I’ve ever seen on eBay. $360.

The Corey O’Brien Reaper. I want this deck and I’m ready to pay for it, so if anybody has one, I’m in the market. This beauty went for $346.

Here’s 3 Grosso’s for you. The first two are the same graphic, different color schemes. It’s the patch doll/jack in the box graphic. Rarish, especially mint. The black one fetched $611..

..and the blue one went for a whopping $761. Nice.

The red Grosso is a very unusual one: I’ve never seen one on eBay before. It’s his last SC graphic, and features graphics from all of his prior SC graphics. It also has the G and the O of his name crossed out, leaving “Ross” supposedly because he was being phased out, and Ross Goodman had just been signed by SC. $305.

Gregor Rankin was a skater from New Zealand, and a real ripper. His decks are far and few between, and some skaters from down under have this at the top of their grail list. This one went for a very reasonable $225.

I love this graphic. The Salba tiger. Used to go for $100 tops. Now it’s highly sought after. This purple one fetched $325.

Bulldog/Z-Flex

This is a recent, handpainted graphic by Wes Humpston himself. Sweet, sweet deck. Supposedly his stuff is collected not just by skaters, but also by real art collectors. $999.

And here’s a Shogo Kubo graphic circa 2000, but this one is unusual because it’s on a plain natural wood. It was normally on a rising sun graphic. It’s kind of ruined by the big ass autograph on the tail though. Word to the wise: don’t get your autographs personalized. The “To Max” line has probably taken around $100 from the deck. It still went for $655 though.

This Dogtown Aaron Murray went for as little as $80 at the online stores as recently as 1 year ago. Now it’s at $430. Clean though.

What’s in a name? A lot apparently. This butt-ugly Zephyr deck was hand screened by Jeff Ho in 2004. That alone got the price up to $400, because nobody could be bidding on the shape or the quality of the graphics!

The classic Vision Agent Orange pig deck as featured in the original Skate Visions video. Great band, great deck. A rare find. Only $191? Surely you jest?

The Gator 3rd version of the classic spiral graphic. Also known as Shapes. A very nice looking deck with an awesome shape. This green and orange one went for $255.

The green and red one went for $535. Interest in Gators seems to be getting higher and higher, who knows why. I might sell mine.

I don’t know if I’ve ever featured a Hook-Ups deck before, but here’s a saucy one for you. The Alice in Wonderland deck. Collectible? The $315 price tag would say yes. .

What the fuck is the deal with all of this Bam shit. Has a more mediocre skater ever had more publicity? (Apart from Rob Roskopp that is). This plain old Bam deck was bid all the way up to $305, simply because it’s autographed. Madness.

Here’s a butt-ugly H-Street Matt Hensley. Huge. How did he kickflip this beast? $565.

A Blind Guy Mariano Dumbo slick. Decks in the mid 90s were produced in VERY short runs, as new graphics came out every few months. That makes decks from this period very hard to find, especially because skaters then weren’t using plastic of any kind. $309

For years the natas Satan graphic was only a rumor. Now a bunch have gone off in the past 6 months. It’s almost getting common! This used one went for $722. A couple of years ago this would have fetched over $2k, easily.

A SMA Steve Rocco mini deck. Was this his last pro model? Maybe. As always, interest in anything Rocco is high. $610.

You won’t see a cleaner Kryptonics Steve Alba than this. It looks virtually brand new. Even the tail pivot is unmarked. The wheels are Belair Lipbombs if you are interested. He appears to have different sized trucks front and back: midtrack on the front, fulltrack on the back? Definitely Trackers though. $916.

A Samhain coffin. Produced at the same time that Glenn Danzig made some Misfits coffins too. $610. Is Skull Skates mad at him too?

Finally this month we have something I bid on but didn’t win. Did you ever wonder how much a Sid Vicious autograph would be worth? Well I was, and I found this awesome Sex Pistols 8×10, autographed by all the band. Unfortunately I was outbid by miles. It finally went for $710.

( Huh? This is from the same guy who didn’t want to put the skatepark in last edition of eBay watch because it wasn’t a skateboard??!!? – k.ed )

More next time.
